I've not much to say except I think we might win and kick on now, Clarke is a doubt, best not to risk him I'd say...

I hope Fenty tells your fans to fuck off again.
Maybe we should get Rob Scott back as manager so we have the chairman and the manager both telling fans to fuck off.

Win this and our start doesn't look disastrous anymore which will make the doomsayers like me look stupid. Doesn't take away the fact our losses were in disgraceful fashion and that Fenty should piss off, but it takes some pressure off Slade. Our squad is still terrible but if we can focus our play around Jones and have him up top with Matt then hopefully he can continue to do enough to earn us some more points.

A bit extreme that...on paper the squad has some quality - Jones, Osborne, Dembele, DJ, McAllister and Asante is a good prospect, Woolford has a decent pedigree, I like Rose's energy and physicality and lets see what Jamille Mann can add; trouble is three of those are long term injuries and the replacements are just not good enough - Berrett has a decent first touch but not athleticism and energy for the box to box quality we need in that role, Summerfield has the energy but is a non-footballer - poor first touch, Hooper from what I've seen so far (two games) has the biggest shortcoming of all - doesn't look willing to put in the hard yards - never a good thing for a Grimsby Town footballer...

I didn't say all of our players are terrible but as a whole it is a poor squad and a bottom half one at that. Jones, Osborne and Dembele are quality and too good for us. Rose and a few others are decent mid table players but then we have players like Vernon, Berrett, Summerfield, Kelly, Clarke, Hooper who are incredibly bad. Compare the squad to last season and you'll struggle to point out a single signing that is actually any sort of improvement, let alone even a like for like replacement. We will likely finish around 18th with what we have and that's if we keep our best players.

Back to back wins is encouraging so credit to the team for that. Seems as though we're starting to actually put in a bit of graft for once, the results speak for themselves. Can only pray they keep it up.

If keep that up, we've enough quality to hurt the opposition at this level...

The way Shrewsbury are going I was clearly wrong about Hurst, but I don't agree that the squad, Bogle apart, was stronger at this point last season; central midfield wasn't, we had no real quality wingers now we have 3. Looks like Hurst has proved me wrong but also proved himself right about the lack of off-field resource was holding him and the team back. Hurst left us with average squad but Fenty apparently went back on his word about bringing in a sport scientist / conditioning resource. Typical Fenty to act too late...

Oh I agree about this point last season, Bogle won us a lot of points and we were probably in a false position. I just compare Slade's recruitment to say Bignot's and it's mad regarding the gulf of quality between them. He has inherited some bad players under contract sure but he has also added to the list of bad players. There is still time for some of his signings to make amends (I think Kelly is a lost cause already) but as it stands we're relying on a bulk of players he didn't sign. I will admit Woolford and Matt seem good signings though and I am probably basing all of this on before they came as I haven't seen them yet, only heresay. So we'll see how we do in the coming weeks, of course it seems to be slowly happening with 3 wins in 4!
