Sky's lovefest with all things Derby continues, and this fixtures makes it on tv for about the 867th consecutive time.

We've hit a bit of form without really impressing. We saw signs of things stsrting to click in to place against Brentford, but given they were pretty awful it was hard to tell how good we really were.

Wolves have hit form themselves, and I see that continuing here with a close hard fought victory. Derby 1-2 Wolves

The international break has come at the worst time, with both of us gaining some momentum after winning our last 2.

Danny Batth's return from injury has been vital to our success, but I feel we may need to loan another defender to partner him, especially now Ebanks Landell is out for a few months. Afobe and ALF are starting to hit form too, and hopefully Kevin McDonald will be able to keep up his form from recent weeks.

As for the game, I can't see us getting anything. Derby look so strong on paper and they seemed to have turned their early season draws into wins. I'd be very happy with a point, but cant see it.

Derby 2-0 Wolves, Martin and Russell

I think in an earlier thread (perhaps the October one?) I joked about a Wolves victory here, but now I think it is increasingly likely. I actually think we play better away from home because the away support is much more tolerant (and expectations are still less).

I can see this being a straightforward away win. Like playing Rotherham or MK Dons.

Wolves to win 2-0: And that scoreline will flatter Derby, tbh. Afobe and Le Fondre. Haven't decided which Derby player is to be sent off unfairly in the 67th minute, but I'll have a think about it and post later.

Easy to upset, these rams aren't they? Look forward to them returning in happy droves when they win at the weekend! :bg:

I think my slight pessimism has rubbed off on to the others.

Martinez

Iorfa - Batth - Hause - Golbourne

McDonald - Price

Wallace - Afobe - Henry

Le Fondre
Decent team, Price deserves to keep his place over Coady based on recent form. Wallace also starts in place of Dave Edwards. Still think Derby will have too much for us, but will happily be proven wrong.

Both teams to score and Wolves to win 7/1
Wolves to score a penalty 10/1

And another. Great set-piece routine and an excellent finish! Good open game so far.

Richard Keogh would play the role of Jack Torrance perfectly if ever there was a remake of The Shining.

Derby 4-2 Wolves

Defence was awful, and when you play a team of Derby's attacking prowess you get punished. Derby looked very good, but when you can splash close to 19m on an already impressive team in the transfer window then you expect nothing less.

As for us... well I'm tired of going on about why selling Richard Stearman was a mistake. KJ has really screwed up in that respect, and unless we sign a defender then for me our season is as good as over.

Don't slash your wrists wolves fans. You weren't that bad. Last season you finished above us and we beat you 5-0 around the same time.

Johnson was superb. Him and Shackall are the most important signings. Ince very poor once again. We are carrying him at the minute

Things really did click in to place today. Excellent performance against a good side.

Need to rewatch Martin's first goal a few hundred times....

Missed the game but some very good goals scored from the looks of what I saw on SSN. Won't lose too much sleep losing 4-2 to Derby, have all but wrote our chances off of matching last year, even with the two games prior to this.

If someone comes back with £12 million plus in January for Afobe I'd be in favour of cashing in if that money could be invested in the starting 11.

Problem is with us being up for sale, I could see us selling Afobe and not reinvesting anything back into the team. It's a big risk, and selling Afobe with no replacement would make us a relegation battling team

Our defence seems to be exposed badly against the better teams in the division and needs a lot of work. I'd sign Le Fondre permanently too. Very frustrating, the defence was fine until we stupidly sold Stearman. For me Kenny Jackett has to take full responsability for that.

Didn't get to see the match but hear it was a convincing win. Not as convincing as 5-0 but Derby fans must be pleased to hear it whenever we are coming to town these days.

Le fondre is an interesting one. I think he adds absolutely nothing during the game and then pops up with a nice goal. Although a different player than Bent, they're the same in that they can both score goals but apart from that they offer nothing to the starting line up. We found last season that Bent scored quite a few but our form was miserable. It's because in modern football you need so much more because without it, doesn't matter how many goals you score, if the team suffers from your inclusion then there is no point in scoring.

I said to my mate earlier that we played a lot better today than the 5-0, funny how people see games. The scoreline wasn't as convincing but I thought the performance was. The 5-0 flattered us last year, I'd argue we played better at Molineux in the 2-0 loss than we did in the 5-0 at home. Difference between the two purely being our finishing touch.

Today was pretty convincing mind. Chris Martin and Bradley Johnson (Again) the stand outs. Shame Martin couldn't convert the penalty which would have topped off a pretty awesome week after his first international goal. The 20 minutes after half time were fantastic, popping it about with such swagger and confidence. Probably guilty of going a bit too gung-ho with reference to the Le Fondre goal, caught us out there. Unlike last season it was nice to see us change from such an attacking display to one which was solid and able to see a game out with relative ease.

Games are thick and fast for a few weeks now so we need to keep this level of performance going if we can, we've set the benchmark.

You make a good point. We have had a succession of these kinds of strikers. Arguably Leon Clarke was the same. Personally, I think it's Kenny Jackett's style of play that leaves forwards isolated. Even in League One when were winning every week, for much of the game we really didnt look dangerous very much.

For us Wolves fans, it's almost amusing to hear our manager rail on about how naive we were in defence (a word he has used numerous times) coming weeks after selling a rock-steady, solid, experienced defender in Richard Stearman for "football reasons".

Call me pessimistic but I think we're at our season's highpoint. With the club up for sale, we will become that anonymous, middle of the team table that nobody minds playing. We're not shit but we're bang average Championship. Like Blackburn, Forest, Charlton, Wednesday.... one of those meh mid-range, budget teams. If we were a car, we'd be a Renault Megane. The 1.6 estate.
