Well, Pratchett was born in Beaconsfield but close enough.

Wycombe having a tough time at the moment - fully expecting spoiling tactics from the 1st minute as Ainsworth is under pressure to get something from this. Pompey in uncharted territory after 3 consecutive wins.

If we play like we did in the first half last week then it will be a fourth win. I'm assuming the Wycombe tactics will be to stay in the game until the last 25 minutes and then use Akinfenwa to cause us problems at the end (which he usually does).

Can't see anything other than a Pompey win here. I'm not too worried about the result as long as we compete, and try and get the strikers some service. Heads could drop after an early PFC goal though.

With 7 injured players out for a couple of months at least i can't see where our goals will come from so 3-0 Pompey that will make it 1 league win in 15 games,Ainsworth needs points soon to keep his job,a heavy defeat here and at home to stevenage next week and that could be him gone.

There's something unnatural predicting a fourth Pompey league win on the bounce. There's always a let down just around the corner.

If we start the game like we did last week then Wycombe's game plan will be blown out of the water after 20 minutes. Still not convinced we've cracked parking the bus tactics though.

Win today against the kings of stifling tactics and i'll start to believe we could be onto something this season.

Being positive i'll go 2-0.

hopeful but not expectant. Wycombe seem to be the King's of gamesmanship so could be difficult. conditions are a bit rough as well.

Be prepared to be bore shitless by our awful tactics, you're lucky you only have to see it twice a season but Wycombe fans have to watch it every bloody week! :ffs:

looks like we're lining up 4-5-1. Playing for the draw then. We'll be lucky if we get a shot on goal from open play.

Ffs Thompson and Wood start so we're fucked! They were both dire last season and they haven't improved so Ainsworth picking them is a joke, still he lost the plot at the start of the year and i can only see a bad defeat today probably 4-0 and that will make it 1 win in 15 League games under Ainsworth. :ffs:

That was some half of football. Topped off by a goal from Chaplin that Pele would have been proud of.

Like I said wasn't expecting anything there so we move on, at least we got some goals. What is happening to the defence though?

10 conceded in the last 3 League games,Pierre returned today but we still let in 4 for the 2nd game in a row. Stevenage at home next and i can see another defeat coming ina game thit will probably finish about 5-15.

one other thing of note today is that wycombe have to be the only professional team I've seen that can't seem to manage throw ons. how many foul throws and warnings for gaining yards can you get in one game. some of the throws that were allowed were atrocious as well.

How is David Forde getting on for Pompey? He was a great servant for us and a thoroughly top bloke as well.

The cynicism that we bring to the game is appalling - playing the edge of the rules rather than the actual spirit of the game is something no-one wants to see. It makes me sick and embarrassed that it's my club doing this shit, although thankfully I wasn't there to see it today.

I don't dislike Ainsworth but I would be very interested to see what style he brings to his next club, if it's like Westley where he just brings negative bullshit wherever he goes or whether he actually tries to encourage football. Time will tell.

I like him. proper old fashioned keeper whos not afraid of crosses and taking charge. made some decent saves already as well.
quite a hard place to play at times as well. two weeks ago he didn't make a save till the 65th minute then had to pull off 3 out of nowhere. would imagine its Hard to stay focused.

Forde is such an improvement on any keeper we've had in the last few years.

was pointing at his watch while arguing with the ref

I think he was pointing at his forearm, presumably where he felt it hit Roberts during the build up to our third goal.

That Chaplin goal though.

When I saw Chaplin adjusting to head the ball I thought he had made the wrong decision, but to place it so deftly was superb. I usually reserve judgement when it comes to youth players that break into the first team - so many times we have seen a player that is earmarked for greatness eventually struggle to make the grade for whatever reason (Ashley Harris springs to mind) and so I have always been concerned that we might be putting too much pressure on Chaplin. However, I have to admit that over the last 6-12 months he has really shown an attacking instinct that appears to be rare at this level. Hopefully we can progress as a club simultaneous to his ever-impressive development as a player.

I think Forde has looked superb since his arrival. I find it crazy to think that both Murphy and Jones (our two main options from last season) struggled to instill consistent confidence in our defence and yet are both now contracted to teams in the Championship (albeit as back-up). From what we have seen so far, I would choose Forde every day of the week.
