For me (and a lot of other fans) we've been far too "safety first" in games this season, and we paid the price vs Shrewsbury and nearly did at Blackpool last week. Conversely we battered a good side in Swindon last home match and took the game to Everton in the cup the other week so you can see where I'm coming from when I say I don't have a clue what will happen tomorrow. Just hope we stick our best side out, try and win the game and play for 90 minutes as we've so infrequently done of late. Got a good record against Gillingham but means sod all on the day. Any Gills heading up for the day?
4 of us making the long trip, another ground for me to tick off the list as not been to oakwell.
Hoping we can bounce back from last week and put in a positive display
Fancy us to nick something from the game
Just back, thought we looked decent in the 1st 20mins, but barnsley scored 1st and didn't really look back after that, we never recovered from conceding a 2nd goal on the stroke of half time.
2nd half we were poor, we looked more threatening when McDonald and Donnelly came on but in the deserved nothing from the game.
A solid if unspectacular performance from us, didn't create too much but took our chances and never looked in danger after taking the lead.
Gills tried imposing themselves first 20 minutes and forced a couple of errors with their direct style that they couldn't punish. We coped well other than that and although Smith at LB was constantly targeted, he had an excellent game and didn't give their winger an inch. Hourihane had another good game winning tackles and providing the odd shot, and our defense was largely untroubled bar a couple of half chances for Gillingham near the end. Thought they had the look of a confident side at first but after half time looked fairly run of the mill for League One, mostly hit and hope stuff with Dack unable to provide any magic as he has done of late.
As for us, another home win against a decent side and if we can start doing that away from home we'll be up there this season.
