Was watching the last 30 mins of The Day The Earth Stood Still (the good one!) and had forgotten just how brilliant the score was. Just looked it up and of course it just had to have been composed by the legendary Bernard Herrmann which explains it. The final minute is sheer perfection.

Carpenter once again with Escape From New York; one of those films I watched endlessly as a kid.
When I used to read the NME, Clint Mansell's group Pop Will Eat Itself were the subject of fairly regular derision by the paper. Funny how things turn out.
