We've announced some shifting around of the Easter Weekend and with the agreements of both Southend, Scunthorpe and Morecambe so that instead of playing Friday and Monday and having both Tuesdays off, we are playing Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday, as normal. We're not playing Morecambe but Southend have had to also move their game with Morecambe to accomodate our request.

I expect this sort of thing will happen a few times during the second half of the season.

Hopefully the COVID situation will stabilise and the weather holds!

I notice a few teams will be playing 3 times in the last week or so of the season.

Everybody STOP immediately. Carlisle are trying to confuse their way out of the division.

I imagine it's not great on the players but playing every Tuesday/Saturday is so enjoyable as a fan. Even when we're not in good form it's really nice to have something to look forward too twice a week.

Look forward to?

Before and during every game you just spend the whole time moaning, even when you’re winning.

LOL he's completely right though. I've hardly noticed you now that you're winning.

Also something to look forward to? Fuck that, my last two weekends have been the best two in ages without having to watch us.
Yeah but you've supported Grimsby for 64 years so it's a bit different

I guess I have to reluctantly admire your perseverance with such a weird and shit joke.
We've won four in a row but it doesn't really feel like we're in good form due to the space between the first three wins and the fourth. We've also beaten four very poor sides.
Yep definitely not whinging all the time.

Most important factor in winning streaks? I would have to say the amount of time between games three and four.

In 2001 vale had to play something like 12 games in 3 weeks. We were playing Saturday Monday Tuesday Thursday and Saturday. I dont know if it was down to postponements or the fact we won the football league trophy that year so that may be why we had so many games to play in quick succession.

Given that we've games in hand ourselves we somehow had a free weekend in March so have moved the Walsall game a few days back to the Friday night instead of the Tuesday.

We had loads of postponements, pitch was covered in sand in the end, awfully wet winter (Notts Co was P-P as their ground flooded!)

Add in the LDV and we had the Stoke game P-P so many times we had to play at it at the Britannia.

Then the Bristol Rovers game was P-P the midweek after the final which was the penultimate week so had to be played the Monday as we had a game Tuesday and Thursday.

Crazy but we got it done. Northampton game we played an absolute master class performance if i recall, lost to Notts Co, hammered Bristol Rovers away, drew in the last game at the Manor Ground the following night, lost to Walsall on the Thursday and drew at Luton... in that crazy last two weeks we had the game at the Millennium Stadium and four away games and 2 home in the last 10 days.

Think I've only known us to play on a Thursday once, at the end of 2000/01 we played Cambridge, Notts County and Wycombe away on the Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday.

We only played twice in the January that year and I remember the pitch being covered in sandpits so must have been a particularly bad winter.

The most extreme example of a fixture backlog I can remember was Cambridge in the 1990-91 season when they were managed by John Beck. We looked set for automatic promotion to the old Division Two but they had about five games in hand in April and went on an incredible winning run and usurped us.

I remember them playing Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday at least for a couple of weeks. I think it was their run to the sixth round of the FA Cup that caused the pile up.

I remember something similar happening to Oldham in 1989-90 when they got to the League Cup final and FA Cup semi final, and missed out on the Division Two play offs in the end.

the free weekend was where the Salford away game had been originally - but they are playing in the 2020 final of some tinpot pizza cup/trophy final that weekend instead.

Which you most likely will not be too concerned about this time next year if you do not sort yourselves out.

You would have played two years ago on a Thursday, boxing day.

This was the same year we had the Thursday/Sat/Mon/Tue/Thurs/Saturday finish.

Yeah we reached the quarter final of the cup but one of the earlier rounds against Bristol City went to a second replay and we had a ton of weather related postponements too. As you say we had five games in hand on some sides so we played 21 games in March and April. We won the league but it was the only time in the whole season we went top. It was a mental run.

A few years later we were a bit stitched by postponements. Swansea were towards the bottom of the fourth tier while we were going for the title against Brentford. Our game at the Vetch got postponed three times then we ended up playing it on the final Thursday before the end of the season and lost - we played Thursday because they played Brentford on the Tuesday. Anyway, we then had Brentford at home final day with them a point ahead. We ended up losing 1-0 and we just looked exhausted.

Can work for or against you.
