Fixture Difficulty from e361

The estimated difficulty of opponents are based on bookies odds, more curious really about how the bookies see the season panning out, as there are no stand-out runs of supposedly difficult or easy fixtures to comment on and there's not much to make any firm predictions about who will challenge at either end of the table. Only Scunthorpe at the moment look in serious trouble and while a few teams have made some eye-catching signings nobody is really assembling a squad that are streets ahead of the others.

Salford, as usual at the top... the bookies expect their investment will come good, and to be fair with not much else to go on might as well place the richest club in the division at the top... but they've proven since coming up that money alone can't get you promoted.

Mansfield still massively fancied. I'm not sure why any more, there was that season they were odds-on before the season began and you'd think the bookies had learned their lesson. Radford isn't even chucking money about any more so I'm not sure why they're where they are.

Swindon lowest of the relegated clubs but still well within the top-half whereas their fans have serious concerns about this season. To be fair these odds were probably put together before McGreal quit.

Champions elect Port Vale way down in 14th... we take the piss out of their fans for celebrating promotion when they win their opening game but still expect them to be more competitive this season.

Barrow have made some really attractive signings, still not enough in the bookies' opinions to rate them higher than crisis club Scunthorpe.

I can understand the media's obsession with Salford. It's the stuff of fairytales what they've managed to achieve with nothing but a billionaire investor, some of the most well-known faces in world football and a willingness to discard what few fans they did have in pursuit of the simple dream of playing mediocre lower-league football while looking superficially like ManU.

Scunthorpe are 23/10 at the moment to beat us on the opening day. I'm tempted to put a lot of money on that given our current situation. No manager, 10 players under contract (unpaid wages for June), pre-season pushed back a week whilst we try and finalise a takeover. We are going to be at least 8 weeks behind other clubs and their preparation. Can't see anything than a Scunny home win first up.
