Anyone got any good tips on decent football based podcasts?
Currently I'm a long term listener to The Football Ramble and The Magic Sponge. Both excellent.

Football Weekly with James Richardson probably the best out there . Agree on The Magic Sponge, hilarious episode with Graham Stack.

I quite enjoy 'The Set Piece Menu' which is new and quite good. Andy Hinchcliffe, Rory Smith, Steve Wyatt and one more who I can't remember.

BBC World football phone in.

Potentially great but completely ruined by Dotun Adebayo constantly interrupting and shouting over his guests with shit attempts to be funny. I know fuck all about South American football but Tim Vickery's enthusiasm for it and South America generally is infectious. Shame the Beeb don't seem to use him much.

'Quickly Kevin Will He Score?' is definitely worth a listen, once you get past them going for a bit of a Football Ramble copy in terms of tone at least. All about 90s football. Have listened to the first 4. 2 of them have had fairly standard but still decent interviews with entertaining guests (Le Tissier in one, Merson in the other), however the stand out episodes have been one about Bobby Gould's reign as Wales boss and one with one of the people who was involved in the development of Championship/Football Manager.

James Richardson has left Football Weekly last month and started 'The Totally Football Show' which is exactly the same as Football Weekly but basically has ditched the rubbish Guardian journalists and stole all the decent ones (Julien Laurens, James Horncastle, Rafa Honigstein, Michael Cox) plus appearance from Leroy Rosenior who comes across very well.

Football Ramble have also branched out with a European show this season called "On the Continent" and the Telegraph and Independent have launched their own football podcasts.

I'm very happy with this as I am perhaps in the minority of one who quite likes Max Rushden, so now I have two decent podcasts to listen to (the other one obviously being AC Jimbo's). No idea why people get so irate about Max Rushden. The whole celebrity anecdotes thing (Trevor Nelson's microwave!) is quite clearly self-deprecating. You would have thought your average Guardian reader would have quite a honed sense of irony, but it seems to be completely bypassed when it comes to Max.

I listened to Tuesday's Football Weekly and enjoyed it and like you, don't really mind Max Rushden at all.

I don't really have time to listen to one podcast these days nevermind two, so doubt I'll be listening to FW too often.

I tend to listen to them when I'm going to bed, which is lucky as I'm usually asleep by the time 'fitbaw corner' makes an appearance.

On the the theme of being in a minority of one, I just can't understand the appeal of Football Ramble. I gave it a go last season but it seemed that more than half of it was dedicated to pretty inane 'banter' that wasn't nearly as funny as the guys doing the pod seemed to think it was.

I feel like you need to give the Ramble a prolonged listen if you want to get into it. One off episodes don't really do it justice.

Or it might just not be to your taste which is fine I GUESS.

Not The Top 20 podcast is good, they focus on simply the Football League and clearly know their stuff and often have some good guests on there. Worth a listen.

The totally football show is the main one I listen to, sometimes give football weekly a go if I get the time. Tried the first football ramble of the season but had to turn it off after 2 mins, just a gang of banter fuelled bellends

I listen to the 606 phone in as well. Mainly for the parts I miss, as I normally get home around 6:30 from our games.

May God have mercy on your soul.

I like The Football Ramble, The Totally Football Show and Second Captains. Football Weekly is dead without Richardson.

Totally Football Show is superior to Football Weekly even though they are effectively the same. I do still despise Ian McIntosh though. You're not as funny as Richardson and you never will be.
