Football rivalry survey

Hello there fellow championship fans I am gathering data for Loughborough University in partnership with UMass (a world leading sport management university). We need your help collecting data regarding football fan rivalry which doesn’t just focus on the premier league clubs. We appreciate any responses given. I did the survey, was interesting and got me thinking of some things and why rivalries exists, although it was quite long i found. I noted on one of the questions, specifically this one:

How much does the competition between Luton Town and Watford enhance the following aspects of Luton Town?

The question about how it might enhance broader admiration for Luton Town. The responses range from No enhancement to an extreme enhancement in admiration. I'd argue the rivalry could actually have a negative impact given potential off field situations that can (and indeed have) arose as a result of the rivalry being there. This can have a real damaging effect on how clubs are viewed (perhaps having a thuggish element etc) and is one of my big concerns about the forthcoming game this season in particular. Ive personally not too sure about going to the away game this season yet because of this.

I started to do the survey, but gave up as it appears to be geared to rivalry within the Championship, and whilst there is a certain amount of rivalry between ourselves and Cardiff, and to a lesser extent, Swansea, our real rivalry will always be Bristol Rovers.

Not that we're going to be playing them any time soon though..................................
