And there it is, home of The Shaymen for 100 years now, and counting. Who else can claim they've been in the same stadium that long? :ds:

Us. Been in Blundell Park a few decades longer than you have in The Shay.

139 years we did in the holy grail that was Saltergate before they turned it into a housing estate…

The time was right for us to move stadiums, but I still miss that place every day*

*Not sure many away fans will concur with that statement

I definitely concur. Loved Saltergate. Great ground, had a proper edge to it. I couldn't get to that opening day at your new place that season when you went down, so I'm well looking forward to Chesterfield away this season. Should take a decent amount to you.

I’m definitely looking forward to facing you guys again. The games between us always seem to have a bit of an edge about them and both teams fans have always travelled well to eachother, making for an all round great atmosphere

I remember that opening day well, I think we’d just come down to league 2 and expectancy was high following big name signings such as Chris O’Grady (disaster)… We absolutely dominated the ball, had chance after chance but could not hit a barn door (story of that joke of a season) and you boys punished us. Remember a certain Siriki Dembele impressing on that day..

We've been at the Cae Ras since 1864. That's 157 years and counting.

Yeah, that was Demebele's debut and arguably his best game for us. He had other decent games, but he was up and down, to the point that we weren't that arsed when he went to Posh for a six figure fee. He's done superbly well for them though, of course.

And yeah, always a bit of edge in our games. Weird though, as neither set of fans would put each other in our top five or so rivals despite being we're fairly close location wise. I actually probably identify and maybe like Chesterfield more than Notts or Mansfield even, but it does always seem like it's about to kick off against you lot. I remember Danny North diving for a pen that won us the game at Saltergate one year, that one was especially spicy.

I definitely concur, my first ever away game was at Saltergate as a 10 year old kid and I loved every minute of it, even the Chesterfield fans spitting at us through the metal fence to our right didn’t dampen the day.
We had been promoted the week before by hammering Wrexham 5-1 so went to Saltergate for a promotion party and we lost 2-0 but nobody gave a fuck.

Very fair assessment of that game, before we scored you’d already missed 2 great chances and then we sat back second half at 2-0 and just invited pressure and I remember thinking that if you got one back you would end up getting something, but luckily for us when you did get one back it was quite late on and we managed to go straight up the other end and got a really lucky break of the ball in your box before Cardwell was hacked down for a pen.
It was because of all the chances you created that I left that game thinking Chesterfield would still get Auto’s and that we would probably get in the play offs too.

It certainly had character. The less said about the toilets in the away end the better though.

We've been in our ground 30 years but it looks 100 years old, does that count?

Give over, 30 years !??? Is that all?

Scunthorpe’a Glanford Park gives off those vibes too I’ve always thought, think they’ve only been in that 30 odd years aswell

Yeah, well 31 years as it opened in 1990. The only major work that's ever been done on it was 10 years later when the mostly fan-funded Erection 2000 campaign raised £100k to put a roof over the home end.

Loved Saltergate, it's always the really bad away ends that you're fond of I think. the toilets there were terrible, similar to Shrewsbury's old ground.

Bottega Don might be able to confirm this but the locals here tell me that the reason the goals are so close to the advertising hoardings and the nets pretty much drape over the goal line is because they miscalculated the minimum pitch sizes when they designed and built it and it wasn't supposed to be as enclosed as it is.

Now come on Luke the one good thing about relegation was getting away from Bottega Don and now you’re tagging him to pop along the non league section. :dis:

Just for that I might go and pull up Masi51 on some of his lies in the league 1 section so he can ruin another thread in there as payback. ;)

Just mention Bolton making a £3•5m loss with a £1•5m salary cap. That will get the froth flowing.

Never. Arguing with Doncaster fans now along with the other balloon The Future is White. Telling everybody its 100% certain Paul Mullin is signing on friday then changes it to 100% he isnt and says it wasnt him.

I have no idea as I wasn't born when we moved into GP but that sounds a very Scunthorpe United thing to do

They could fix it now by chopping off half the stand behind the goal to accommodate it and the 45 fans that use it could just go in the side instead.
