Each year we have a mid table championship. Who are favourites this year?
Bradford City, Crawley, Harrogate

Add us to the list probably. Truthfully have already got one eye on what L2 will be looking like next season.

Can't see us collapsing enough to go down and if we got to the play offs I'd be dumbstruck.

I am hoping we will be in touch with the top seven for a bit longer but we must be near favourites for the mid table cup.

I understand Mansfield are the reigning champions of this prestigious cup. There is no chance we can retain it this year.

I understand that the winner is

the first team to be mathematically safe, but also mathematically unable to qualify for the playoffs

Correct on both counts. My money is on Harrogate this year, though Carlisle could be a value outsider if they continue their recent run for a few more games.

FGR's results in last month could well mean they join this table by season end.

We'd really have to be going some to not even make the play-offs, think that chart Trapdoor posted doesn't even offer a percentage chance. Would be a massive disappointment not to get an auto spot, which is possible if our form continues to stutter, but even a points haul like the recent slump would leave us in the top seven.

If FGR don't not gain auto promotion then it is more than likely they will not be promoted.
It would mean they were in the depths of a slump and teams suffering such do not win play-offs.

True, but the mid table trophy would have been awarded by then so we'd miss out on that too.

This is hellogregory levels of doomongery!
Not so.
I did not write Will but IF FGR's team's performance doesn't improve they will not get promoted.
That is self evident.
No wins in past five matches and some difficult games on the horizon.

You’ll be getting a win tomorrow, so calm down can’t believe FG fans are lurking here. No chance you don’t end top 3 regardless of poor form.

You play 4 of the easy beats in your next 5??

Maybe have a flap then if you don't turn them over.

FGR are nailed on champs and I’m surprised even with their slight dip in form lately that’s even a conversation.

In terms of the prestigious mid table winner I think the Salford hobby club are probably the best placed on reflection,

FGR will win the league i would expect, always likely to have a “blip” and even after 6 winless games they are still well clear.

Teams below just haven’t been consistent enough to really challenge over the course… Mansfield, Bristol Rovers we’re poor for a few months before their good runs, Exeter had an awful run around Xmas, Cobbler and Tranmere recently.

All teams have sticky patches and even average form takes FGR up.

Win's for Port Vale, Sutton and Mansfield tonight mean 10 teams won't be able to go down, and 3 can't make the play offs - but it will probably be 5 or 6 games before we get a mid table cup winner.

So tonight better or match Oldham's result and we are staying up!

which was something you couldn't have said this early last season - so progress is being made.
No with 10 games to go last season we had just won our first game of that crazy run to end a spell of 3 wins in 24 so had only 38 points!

looking at this Saturday's games;-

an Oldham defeat coupled with a Salford win would mean that Salford unfortunately can't be relegated.

similarly a defeat for Scunthorpe means that Crawley, Bradford, Walsall and Harrogate can't finish bottom.

If Scunthorpe lose and Carlisle win their game then Carlisle can't finish bottom. The same applies to Orient.

not finishing bottom of course still means relegation if you finish 23rd - unless someone (probably Derby) go bust. But this only tends to happen if Stevenage finish 23rd.

IF Oldham were to lose to both Orient on Tuesday and Stevenage on Saturday the points needed to avoid relegation would drop to 49.
IF that happens and all the teams on 63 points (Tranmere, Bristol Rovers, New Port and Port Vale) all win next week, then we should have a mid table cup winner on the 9th April.
