Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
I’d imagine Carlisle will be missed in L1, their away support has probably been better than any other in that league this season, especially considering the season they had.

You can never tell who of the sides going up will do well the following season so leagues are never really ‘easy’ or ‘tin pot’ you could end up with four promoted sides from this year struggling and four from next season doing well.

Just because this season we had a couple of sides spending ridiculously stupid wages to achieve what frankly many others can do spending a fraction doesn’t suddenly make this season more fantastic, it’s just them clubs have a slightly different set of issues than the other clubs have when promoted.

Their opinion has changed pretty quickly as they thought he was brilliant in the first few games and he had an England C call up.
TC should of been head and shoulders above the National League, he was one of the best in L2 when playing at this level the past two seasons he was in it, but doesn't seem to have worked out there. Hasn't hit the same levels for us since his injury.

Well… it won’t be Oldham joining us back here next year after their draw tonight sees them out of reach of the play offs. Who’d have thought we’d be saying that after their last minute 1-1 win & pitch invasion at our place back in August?

Stinker of a season from them considering they’ve the biggest budget in the league. Comes down to crap recruitment for me & two bang average managers
Could still be Southend. What an insane run they've put together. Halifax and Aldershot don't have the easiest final matches. Would really like to see Southend back. Our relegation brothers last time we went down.

Also a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel for Southend with the deal for the houses getting closer which is hopefully where Martin sods off. A takeover and promotion at the same time would be unbelievable for them.

Might well pop down to watch alty in the week if they get a home tie, would love to see them come up.

If you’re a league side that was ever non-league you’ve not done it properly if you’ve not lost to altrincham, and we were of no exception!

regarding next years conference it somehow looks even easier than this edition!

The comments about southend are fair, sounds like they’ve had a right issue with their chairman which is why many sides end up down there in the first place - something i can relate to!

If the owner/how club is run isn't the reason you fall through the football league trapdoor then you likely are historically Non-League and had a nice little holiday in the EFL.

Countless examples of inept/awful owners sending clubs to be #stained.

I do feel sorry for Oldham. A club of that size not troubling the playoffs for 2 years in the NL is pretty disgraceful.

Adam s bang on about Chesterfield, can’t see Cook and co keeping the amount of dross we kept on last year. Their piss poor end to the season will probably do them a favour next year in that it’ll underline who won’t be good enough for the EFL.
Yep I agree.

I've said it elsewhere but one big plus of winning the league in basically Feb was we've been able to fuck about a bit with the players/squad since then and it's abundantly clear that some aren't good enough, so it's good to find that out now than 10 games into next season.

Fairly sure we are going to have a big summer, not loads in or out, but the ones who leave will be replaced with quality. We will have an ok sized budget, think it was around £2.1m this season, expect we will increase that slightly for next year - especially if we break 5k season tickets.

The Southend fans are a good bunch as well, and deserve a break from that absolute parasite Ron Martin. If they squeeze in (matron) you could see them doing it. Halifax and Aldershot have trickier games than they look on paper, could happen

Noisy home fans too. Of the last 5 years they're second only to Wrexham going off games I've been to.

Personally next season they should align league 1/2 and the conference so it’s 3 up 3 down from all leagues.

*this has nothing at all to do with 4 sides going down from league 1.

Also given halifax and gateshead (if they make it) would presumably be fucked from all the games they’ve had of late, so wouldn’t be a bad time to play them,

Said before they should make the National League Premier EFL League 3 with the level it is at and being virtually all full time, bring them into the same financial rules etc. and go from there... excuse to bin the Prem sides from the Pizza BSM LDV autoGlass Trophy too.

You knew Oldham were not ready for what the National League had in store when their new owner gave that speech to the fans crying 'what even is a Dorking'.

Also not sure if mentioned but newport will be sole longest serving club in league 2 next term as they came up with us.

And then proceeded to go sign 15 strikers in the hope that they’d just outscore everyone

Didn’t exactly pan out very well

Afraid not and numbers would probably have dropped for your second season as the novelty wore off and the tonkings took their toll.

There were 8 teams in L1 with a better away support than you. We'll probably lose 3 of them to the Championship but their replacements will bring decent numbers. Admittedly, you travel better than the other 3 that will go down with you but I'm also sure that Stockport, Wrexham, Mansfield and even Little Old Barrow will bring more to the Abbey than you were likely to manage.

Off course all that is said with fingers crossed as we're quite capable of screwing up and joining you in the very Northern L1 by presenting Vale (or Cheltenham) with the chance to stay up in our final game.

Vale travel well if it's an hour or so away. We have a lot of young lads who love the away day. Usually take around 1k to these games but depending on how we're doing it can be 2k+. Anything south of Birmingham seems to put us off (although weirdly we took 1k to Charlton at the end of last season). If we're doing well (as with most teams) we usually travel in decent numbers.

Travel in good numbers if it’s an hour away? Not bloody surprised, many clubs don’t have any games under an hour away!

Yeah, we're fortunate being virtually in the centre of the country. We don't travel very well outside of a 50 mile circle!

even less chance of L2 clubs agreeing that after barmy decisions about fa cup replays

Chesterfield are a weird one really because they've pissed the league yet only won 4 of their last 14(?). I know in those 14 games some have been post promotion and the foot gets taken off the pedal but even so, that's pretty disappointing to be in that kinda form for a third of the season, surely?

It's verging on unprofessional the way intensity levels have dropped. I suspect it's mostly just that, the jobs done, effort levels gone, but there's a slight bit of concern about it. Still we've got out that's the main thing and off seasons are that great reset aren't they. It is very disappointing, almost taking a bit of a shine off what has been a great season otherwise, but I think we'll be OK.

The only issue if Southend somehow come up is that match day threads will be about 300 pages long as they have some very excitable, overly confident fans on the other forum.
Although if you like hearing about every time they make a sub, or win a corner, then they will be right up your street.

9 teams confirmed for 24-25:

Accrington
Carlisle
Chesterfield
Morecambe
Newport
Notts County
Salford
Swindon
Tranmere

Up to 8 teams could confirm their spots depending on results today.

In L1:
Fleetwood will be relegated with anything less than a win
Port Vale will be relegated if they don't match or better Burton's result, or if they lose and Cheltenham win.

In the NL:
It's a 3 way battle for the final PO spot. Halifax are in the driving seat but have also played Tuesday and Thursday, so what are their energy levels like? Aldershot and Southend are waiting to pounce on any slip ups.

Our work was done by the start of that 14 game run though, as crazy as that sounds, as it came directly off the back of 12 wins in 13 which took us out of realistic reach of the chasing pack. Nothing disappointing about romping to a title with ease. We had it won in February when we beat Barnet away to take us 23 points clear at the top with just 10 or so games remaining.

There’s always going to be a natural drop off in performances at that point mentally because it’s done isn’t it, nothing to play for. Coincide that with Cook rotating the squad far more often to see what fringe lads are made of and you’re going to get a drop off in results.
