So what we need right now is a RWB to at least split time with Worrall, two forwards preferably one of them with some pace and a keeper as am still saying Stone is not a #1 at this level yet.

Might be others depending on any outgoings from the squad.
Possibly a midfielder as well and a centre half?

Mansfield want Tom Bayliss supposedly.

No idea what he's actually good at.

And for an 'undisclosed fee' I expect :hb:
That's the way football transfers go. Designed to avoid alerting clubs to how much cash you have but in so many ways it is peculiar.

Football transfers are an open secret amongst the fraternity that even if it is undisclosed, every man and his dog will know.

Exactly that. I don’t know why a large chunk of our fans are obsessed with revealing how much we pay out or earn. We already know that it’s over £4m for Twine because of the rejected bids so we aren’t just giving him away.

Define stupid.....our Home attendance averaged 23k last year which gives us more scope for wages, we've also shelled 13 players so again we have space to add.
You've also been in financial trouble fairly recently. Even with big crowds, paying a 3rd division footballer 14 or 15k per week is bonkers.

No we failed ffp that isn't the same as being in financial trouble.

Financial trouble is stints in administration, shafting creditors.....

We have just signed Peter Kioso on a 3 t=year contract, I understand you had him on loan.
What can we expect?

Decent player, always seemed better going forward rather than defensively.

Honestly, I’ll be surprised if he can make the step up to the championship.

Have apparently signed goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott, again last at Swindon.

Getting a bit silly now.

That's spending more money than you have based on income isn't it?
Yes but with owners willing to cover it unfortunately the FFP rules are weighted to favour clubs in receipt of parachute payments so you either try and keep up with them or accept being mediocre.

Excellent player. He didn’t want to leave here in January but football is football. He’s strong, pacey and loves the Franchise so in my books he’s a wonderful player

Hardly surprising. Did very well for us, technically very good with ball at feet, good shot stopper. Not amazing commanding his box due to his size but a handy enough keeper. Will be going to the world cup with Ghana.

That'll do with taking our players now pig.

It's just living to your means isn't it and making it a level playing field? What if your owner pulled out all their money tomorrow?

We'd cheat our debts like Vale

And like every club reliant on their owner, be in the shit.

Again, I think all clubs barring Accrington don't play by those rules. If you implemented a rule whereby clubs can't post losses, the football pyramid would collapse. However the better supported clubs would still prosper and swallow up the better players. They'd just pay less for them. You'd presumably just have the better supported sides (Derby, Sheff Wednesday, Ipswich) paying far more than anyone.

We pay somewhere in the region of £750k every season for a half completed stadium. It's a nonsensical deal. Given the above parameters we lose money and arguably wouldn't exist without our wealthy owners until we can find a solution to our stadium. The club otherwise would plummet based on the business model so the owners prop the football club up as do many others. That being said in the weird and wonderful world of football, our loses are probably about right for our position in League One. Yes, football is broken.

That’s more the fault with the system and why it’s hard for most standard L1 clubs to compete, the days of us being a solid 2nd tier outfit are long gone unless a Bournemouth or Brentford type takeover happened, even under Carol.

Paying £15k in a league where most sides are probably paying £2-5k averages is nuts but that’s football these days.

It’s also why you get a league one like this, big clubs going to shit then getting sorted and spunking money again.

The bigger worry for the game though is the money clubs in non league are spending… as these haven’t got generally large fan bases to fall back on.

It seems like some in this league are spending stupid money on wages. Hope it doesn't come back to bite them.
Don’t be so stupid. Bigger clubs never overspend. They are all run within budget and only spend based on their gate and overall income because fans on here say so.

Clubs like us will always do business late in the window because that’s where we are in the food chain.

The good news is the big clubs seem to go for players from higher divisions so we can pick up the odd gems or grafters.

Absolutely. I wasn't talking about Wednesday specifically as there are a few others in this division that do similar. It just doesn't seem right that a club should be able to post losses and then pay exorbitant amounts for players. In the 80s and 90s it was more of a level playing field, where managers and players were the reason clubs did well or not...now it's basically a game of who has the richest owner. There should be a player draft and wage cap...then it would truly be a fair competition.

You've really got a chip on your shoulder about this haven't you? Again, we didn't cheat to get into a position of administration (like many others have done). Neither the club nor its creditors benefited at any point. Businesses go out of business all the time, but when businesses knowingly spend way more than they earn to gain competitive advantage, that's when creditors should feel cheated.

No I don't have a chip on my shoulder none more than you do over bigger clubs. You ran insolvent, that by the very definition is cheating.

Football Isn't like a normal business, there is a underhand nature to it all and clubs will always look at ways to get that extra yard, we are spending more on players than others to try and get back up the league and get that 7m a year extra tv money.

It's really not! Running insolvently is vastly different to running insolvently to gain competitive advantage. We didn't run insolvently anyway, we just ran out of money as countless businesses do every day. I can assure you that at no point did we gain competitive advantage! I was there.

Football should be like normal business though, otherwise it's not a football competition, it's more a who's got the richest owners competition. Look at Bournemouth and Brentford, they're far smaller clubs than Sheffield Wednesday but they're much higher in the pyramid simply because they have much wealthier owners. If you can't see that football should be about football and rewarding good management/coaching rather than how many zeros they can write in a cheque book then we have nothing else to discuss. Sport should be a level playing field, which is what they have tried to do in the states. Otherwise we're just going to have a combination of man city/Liverpool/Chelsea/Arsenal/Spurs/United winning or coming in the top 4 of the top league forever more. It's so ridiculously monotonous.
