Aaron Martin was rated quite highly at Cov I think, I'd have taken him here.
Martin is ok, nothing to shout about. A mid table to lower league one defender, so depending on teams ambitions he's a solid signing for a team looking to consolidate there place in league 1.

He was crap for for the first 8 months he was here, he was better under Mowbray but even then he was only playing as we had long term injuries to our first choice defenders.

Weird response that, he took his chance and proved himself to be the best option we had. Seems like a bitter response that fans come out with after they release players.

What is he valued at?
His value to us is obviously more than he's worth, so I would say quite a lot. Over £1 million for sure, how much over I don't know. It wouldn't make sense to sell him to another league one club who could end up selling him for millions.

He isn't for sale anyway, clearly stated he is a season or two away before being sold. I'm 100% confident of keeping him this window.

With 1 season left on his contract... Perhaps we will wait until next season then.

Why would I be bitter? I thought it was a good decision by Mowbray to release him.

Do transfers work inwards as well as outwards? And if so will someone please inform our board?

At the minute we haven't even got enough players to enter a 5 a side league

Brad Inman signs for Posh on a 3 year deal.

Decent move for both parties IMO.

We've signed Nicky Clarke from Rangers. Always a gamble signing Scottish players so we'll have to see how he does.

Well look on the bright side, if he does not turn out to be as good as anticipated, then at least Bury will have an official team hair dresser! win, win!

He's also been given the number 2 shirt judging by the training numbers, having him as our home kit model and number 2 screams that we don't plan on selling him, Oxford would come under that category as I'm sure they'd have asked the question weeks ago.

If he leaves it will be to a premier league club or a top end championship one

Hopefully McCann can push his career on now as he has all the talent to be a decent Championship player. I'm not that sad to see him go, he was a 'luxury' who's failed to live up to obvious promise for various reasons.

Fact is, Posh have picked up a player for free that we paid £100k for. That's no slight on Brad, just another case of Davis' failing both in the transfer market and ability to develop players. He had a brilliant loan spell to begin with but needed to work under a manager who could develop him and actually know where to play him - not Steve Davis. Personal grudges haven't helped (nearly being sent packing with Grant a few years back) and possibly a lack of motivation from Brad himself due to a management team who clearly lost patience and belief in him far quicker than they did in other players.

Paul Downing signing for the MK Dons.. Funny what being part of a team at the top end of a table does for agents and managers.

Someone on our forum reckons he played 56 games for you last season. If true he can't be that bad then...

He's a solid enough limited league 1 defender, who can excel and look the part next to the right type of commanding partner. Unfortunately, he is very prone to a total capitulation once every 7/8 games. Any big defeats for us last season involved a Paul Downing melt down. When we lost 4-0 to Rochdale the season before last, Dean Smith came on the radio (the biggest player protecting manager I can ever remember) and admitted that Downing had a mare, that the Dale attackers had 'tortured' him.

Nice bloke, solid enough League One defender, but the fact he played 56 games last season and not one single Walsall fan cares that he is leaving, should tell you a story too. Decent in the air, can look composed quite a lot of the time, has put in lots of very good performances for us. But hasn't made sufficient progress for the 'promising young defender' that we signed 3 odd years back. His best Walsall performances weren't last season, gets bullied by big forwards and is the traditional, 'look up and launch it as far as possible' kind of defender. He also backs off on-running players, which cost us 3/4 goals last season as he has no pace if they do skin him.

It's a shame it hasn't worked out really, I remember the night we beat Wolves 1-0 at the Molinuex. Both he and Andy Butler were absolute rocks.

Darragh has confirmed that Jack Payne has now been made available on a free. If anybody wants him, Jon Taylor or Kgosi Nthle, you're more than welcome to them.

We've only gone and signed Chris Kirkland on a 1 year deal. Looks like an absolute waste of a wage when we have just signed Ben Williams. The goalkeeper merry go round continues.

Interesting, he won't be allowed to hoof the ball here, so wonder how that's going to work out. Hopefully he just clicks with us, you never know, might have the best season of his life, or could be complete shite.

Can only hope he does well, personally never heard of him before and wanted us to sign Kevin Long. I'm willing to give him a chance to prove himself though, hopefully he can come good.

Id take Jack Payne back.
I'm surprised it never worked out for him at Posh.
There is a very good player in there, it seems that he has just lost his way a bit.
Still young though.

I'd bite your hand off for Jon Taylor

Ironic that we almost signed Kirkland last season, and lost out on the 11th hour - which meant Williams would be number 2.

History repeated itself - I wonder what Williams thinks of this signing.

Ajose to Charlton for around £800k. About the right sort of fee in my opinion.
