Signed Billy Bodin on a one year deal.

Looks like he's had a torrid time of it over the last few years. Rovers fans might be a better judge?

On the face of it I'm underwhelmed. But maybe it turns out to be an inspired signing.

Thing with Collins is that he has scored goals throughout his career. He had an at least decent scoring record and often a lot better than that everywhere he has been. The others mentioned have had decent records at one or 2 clubs or even just one season but Collins has always been a consistent scorer everywhere. Hence he has made the step whereas the others haven’t (or haven’t as quickly as he did yet).

I am clearly biased here but for me he’s a level above those you’ve mentioned and should have been playing higher a lot sooner than he eventually did.
As Shrewsbury fan I totally agree plus he had 2 decent spells with us

If you get the Billy Bodin that was with us -- A superb player. But he has had plenty of injury problems. If we were in for him I would have been pleased.

Still confident on Mullin by Friday?
We released Arthur and Miller
We have bought Bakayoko in and the young lad from Hamburg who wont count as a squad signing leaving us with one more space............Expect Mullin to be a one season wonder and not proven about 5pm Friday

Crawley got an "out of contract"James Collins from a really poor spell in Scotland. If he signed for us it really must have been poor. Way too good for League 2 . A fact that Luton recognised when they brought him from us.

Josh Martin in on loan from Norwich - leveraging the Russ Martin connections again. He'll give us the much needed width after the loss of Sorinola and Laird from last season.

Apparently, Bristol City are close to signing Rob Atkinson from us for getting towards £2m (including add ons etc).

I think it may be a year too early as was the case for Gavin Whyte imo but nonetheless if it happens I only wish him well.

Signed rep of Ireland International gk Gavin Bazunu on loan from Man City. Had a tough time last season on loan at Rochdale. Hopefully he'll have learnt and will get better here.

Blimey - two in one day! Ethan Robson in on a seasons loan from Blackpool and as his contract is up at the end of the season, I'm assuming that we'll have an option to buy. As Surman and McEachran are still dithering over their offers, it's good to have cover across the middle. Sign up a striker (cough - Grigg) and another wide player and we'll have a starting lineup.

Not a rumour, but Lowe has said this year he is not interested in loans from Premiership teams, that he wants to coach our own youngsters instead. Obviously this is the Crewe way, anyone else taken this approach and how did it work?

he has said he expects to sign two to three more players.

It's the best approach any side can do, especially in these uncertain times! Unfortunately, too many Chairmen are impatient and won't give managers time to put their faith in youth. Wrexham were very good at doing it in the 90s/early 2000s until Hamilton ruined them. Rochdale and Exeter have had a go but the latter keep losing their kids as a result of the EPPP system. Colchester, like us, are a Cat 2 Academy as well but, bar Sammie Szmodics and Frankie Kent, I've not seen many sales from them recently.

If coached correctly and the players are given a chance, you can have Championship/high end League One calibre players playing for you on League Two/Conference wages once they settle in. But some clubs are thick enough to constantly shout out they have big budgets so they're willing to spend silly money on journeymen and their agents fees.

I think we're heading to younger squad average ages across the board even if clubs don't adopt our model. With COVID hitting clubs financially, not many clubs will want to be giving Eoin Doyle type contracts to experienced pros dropping down the league anymore, unless those players become realistic with their wage demands.

We had Ethan Robson on loan here season before last and he was fantastic.

Burton fans. Crawley have just signed Owen Gallacher who played 9(?) times for you last season.

We only had one left back so we did need one but is he any good or have we got a dud?

I've never heard of him. Any good?
I honestly thought we'd be sending him on loan to a Championship team this season rather than League 1, even considering the Russell Martin connection and that you apparently play similar tactics to us. He's young and raw, but there's a lot of talent there and he didn't look out of place in the Championship. If he can improve his defensive tracking back and general concentration - as he has a tendency to drift in and out of matches - he'll be very good at this level. He's particularly good at dribbling out of tight spaces past defenders and cutting inside to pick out passes to the striker.

That was a well spent £250k. 70 goals later…

That was a fair bit before he signed for you actually, he’d just had a loan spell where he had scored a few goals at Northampton as they ran away with the league and before that his second spell at Shrewsbury which as above was decent. The Hibernian season sticks out as his one kind of not great one of his career.

Remains a bit of a weird one that he pitched up at yours really, definitely very much out of the way for him location wise. For us to then pick him up for 250k as well to add that ha big just scored 20 goals, equally strange one.

I know many on Yellows Forum/Twitter are up in arms with this deal, it is however outstanding business for the club. There is plenty of value in the market to replace namely from League Two, Conference and SPL.

Rumours of Gavin Whyte returning... Clutching at straws I think. But we can dream!

I think (and that means I was told by a man down the pub) that we had some sort of buy out clause/agreement with him. By the way, we were told it was £350k. Not going to argue the toss over it and it's still a great price anyway.

Agreed, I think it is a good deal for all parties. I'd be very happy if we could get Gavin Whyte back.

The pant wetting and and suggestions he'll be worth £6m in a year on Yellowsforum has been laughable. It is the usual circular argument whenever we sell a player where it is ignored that we also buy players and that this is the model the club follow.

Sounds like we could sign someone today.

Twitter talk is that it's Jack Tucker but I can't see where that's been mentioned anywhere.

Has the talk of Mullin really died down? I’ve seen him pop up a few times on Facebook this week linked with you from various sources.
