Really? Is that from a reliable source? Finding that hard to imagine as it seems he’ll very much be a part of the first team picture this season, as he was last season until getting injured in November (torn ACL).

Unless it’s just a loan until January to get him back to full match fitness following said injury.
If this does happen then, it will likely be a loan as we've loaned out one of our central midfielders for 6 months.

If you all say he will likely be back in the first team fold quickly then this will probably not happen for us, all I know is we're interested in him - probably due to his long term injury. Think its a long shot myself.

£500k for a 29-year-old forward who has generally had a bit of a patchy record until having an unbelievable three-month period last season seems a good deal to me. I do like May and his tenacious hassling etc, think he's a good forward. Probably as good a time as any to cash in though as I can't imagine he'll hit the same goalscoring form again really.

I'm sure I remember reading Cheltenham fans in January who would have been happy with the idea of moving him on for a fairly nominal fee to make way for someone more reliable in front of goal, funny how quickly things change.
You've hit the nail on the head.

Only 3 forward players aged 29 and over have even gone for more than £500k from the 3rd tier. All of them with either a much better record, or a better history of playing in higher divisions.

The meltdown is just an excuse for people to jump on the backs of the board because being calm and steady just isn't exciting enough.

Just checked who owns your local paper, not surprised.

What's the local paper got to do with the club being prepared to accept £500k for our star striker?

The journalist is well known at the club and among the fans, he is a Cheltenham fan himself, and he doesn't publish bullshit about the club, regardless of who own's the paper.

Some supporter....making it public your club will accept 500k for its star striker. I cant see Cheltenham working with him much anymore whether its true or not

Si Robin as you said yourself the club have said he’s not available for £500,000, so he’s just doing what he’s told to do, make up stories to generate clicks.

Paul Crute who was our decent reporter was laid off two years ago by the same mob.

The tweet from the official Cheltenham page was a bit...odd. Sounded like a come and bid for him plea.

Lincoln fans we appear to have Andrade on trial, I understand he started off well for you but then faded away?

Andre Wisdom on trial at Portsmouth, solid for league 1 but not played for a year.

No, he was excellent for us all the way through really. His mistake was going to Salford for silly money (although they also paid us silly money given he had 6 months left on his deal) instead of bettering himself like he should have done.

He hardly played at Salford, then had a spell at Stevenage and it didn't sound like he's enjoyed his football since leaving us. I'd be signing him though, he's definitely worth a gamble in terms of getting the Boreham Wood and Lincoln Andrade rather than the Salford and Stevenage one. I'd actually back Harris to get a tune out of him as well. Harris and Cowley are good mates so I suspect the latter will put a good word in for him.

Better on the left cutting in than going on the outside as a right footer. He actually wanted to play as a '10' here but he was far more effective wider, also had an excellent LB behind him in Harry Toffolo as well.

Thanks Luke, I’ve posted that to our forum. Sounds like he’s worth a punt by that write up.

We’ve made our first signings: Cashin and Thompson have signed extended deals which is extremely good news.

Wildsmith, Mendez-Laing and Barkhuizen all new faces through the door.

Plenty more to come, but that’s a good start.

Buchanan is off to Werder Breman, some move considering he struggled to hold down his place over Craig Forsyth at times. £400k compensation. A fair price all things considered.

McGoldrick, Hourihane, Chester & Davies are all close to signing. The latter three seem very close to getting done. McGoldrick still has an offer on the table from Middlesbrough, but he's settled in the area and apparently has already been training with the club.

Experience is key, considering we're starting from scratch. I'd like to see Forsyth signed up for another year or two - Sunderland reportedly keen though. I don't think it will be long before we start in the loan market, I'd assume our business plan means we can't pay any transfer fees so really we've got to be aggressive in both free agency and loan market.

I wouldn't worry - we'll sell anyone for £100k and thank the buying club for pulling our pants down.

Bring on the bidding war I say. £750k+ and I would be happy. He’s a top player but replaceable.

Ffs now it’s just us that’s signingless (if that’s a word!)
Moomim, Schuey has said it is highly likely that LWB Ryan Law will go out on loan since we got in Mikel Miller, any use to you?

We are looking for a LWB I believe, so could be good. What’s he like?

That being said when was the last time we took a player on loan from Plymouth? Must have been Craig Noone about 15 years ago!

We won’t get anywhere near 750k. If a lot of clubs are very keen we could get 350k-ish but even that would be very very good business from our side

For a striker who scored over 20 goals in league one, 24 years old and a year left on his deal should command 500k minimum.

He didn't though, it was 15 in league 1 and the rest in various cup matches. 15 is not a bad haul in the league mind but is it making him half a millions worth? I'd hope we could be cheeky get Max Watters back for that.

Depends how much the selling club can afford to hold out for and how stroppy the player would get if denied a decent payday.

Possibly both count against us here!

FWIW I think we'll be grateful for the cash and accept whatever we're offered. Others in the league would play hardball, I'm not sure that's in our nature but I'd be delighted to be proven wrong with a £500k+ fee.

Personally think anything near £500k is wishful thinking, £350k tops for us I’d have thought.

Watters is twice the player smith is so I’d have watters in a heartbeat.

Year left on contract? If you can't get him to sign an extension you really have no choice but to cash in now. It's not like he is going to fire you to promotion if he stays is it. We just lost David Kasumu on a free due to contract expiry. It's somewhat annoying.

I understand why our fans seem to think we are pushovers in the transfer market with what’s gone on in the past but let’s look at the Darling deal.

250k plus a 30% sell on. That’s really good business at the time. Smith with over 20 goals this season at a good age and a year left on his deal. Minimum 500k and 20% sell on or tell them to try and sign Watters for £1m.
