You have mistaken what I've been saying - I haven't done an away game since Boxing Day in 2015 for the very reason you've given (4 kids and a wife who begrudges me even going to home games).

My issue is with the Plymouth fan calling me a plastic because I think Plymouth is a shit-hole and I wouldn't want to go there ever again.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who supports lower league teams, even those johnny-come-latelies can't be called plastic. Plastic is the Man Utd and Liverpool fans on my Facebook who I grew up with and have never been to single game, or even left their small corner of Gloucestershire, but refer to each other as Scousers and Mancs because they definitely are as they watch all the games at home don't you know. And they'll never go to Cheltenham because it's shit. Someone told them it was once and they must be right.

People only support the clubs like ours because of some familial or other link. I support Cheltenham because it's where I'm from, I know a lad from Derby who supports Cheltenham because his Dad is from here and took him to Cheltenham games, etc... If Salford are followed by United and City fans then credit to those fans for at least going to the football and not being armchair supporters. If the new FGR fans are only going because of Vince's eco-trip then at least they're going to the football. I could go n.

Looked more like 850 vale fans to me not 624 as that stand holds 1100. Also the crowd was 3741 and it holds 7000 how do you fit another 3000 in there?

If your club requests the away following then scunthorpe will give it. Vale asked for the number and they came back a couple of days later saying 354 away fans.

Looked more like 850 vale fans to me not 624 as that stand holds 1100. Also the crowd was 3741 and it holds 7000 how do you fit another 3000 in there?

The standing areas are barely filled, and when I saw the Vale crowd I said around 700. The corners were quite bare and there were gaps throughout.

The Main Stand is rarely full as well. What you don't see when there's a good few in is the single seat gaps. By me for example there were easily 50 or so free seats, but you wouldn't know that from just looking up at the stand.

I suspect this thread will come to a grinding halt once Coronavirus hits the country big time.
One of our regular away supporters has said that he will stop travelling on Supporter's Coach until the main threat has abated.
I suspect it will be same at every club in country.

What’s surprising to me is that over the season so far (up to March 1) we’re only averaging 25 less average away crowds then Cheltenham 239-214.

To be averaging over 200 is pretty shit relative to most clubs in this league but for us it’s pretty good, especially given how we aren’t exactly a happy ship at the minute.

I know you are getting there mate, but just wonder if the stadium move will have a reverse effect?

It’s impressive until you remember that Cheltenham are also a tinpot non league club from the middle of a field somewhere near Wales.

We all know you live within a sparse area for population and it's a rugby supporting area anyway. So getting an average over 200 for away games isn't to be 'sniffed at' these days!

Not so.
It is to the north of Gloucestershire or Cheltenhamshire as the locals like to call themselves which is mainly Rugby supporting.
Walk round Cheltenham or Gloucester and and you'll see plenty, plenty of the claret and white striped shirts of Gloucester RFC but far less so in Stroud District where FGR is located.
In fact Nailsworth has two football teams, FGR & Shortwood, although I'll admit on other side of hill Minchinhampton does have a small rugby club.
Other football clubs in SDC include Slimbridge and Brimscombe & Thrupp plus Cirencester is only a stones throw away.
Oh yes Stroud does have a rugby team but the small stands seems to indicate it is no better supported than Shortwood.

Did anyone hear of an official figure of Grimsby fans at Scunthorpe on Saturday. I know we sold our full allocation of 2090 tickets, but that doesn't always marry up with the numbers there on the day.
