Sutton are a great bunch of people and I won't hear a word against them. I might be slightly biased.

456 for a 25 mile journey is absolutely dreadful, despite being bottom of the league.

No trains/public transport options and apparently there was an issue with the supporters club coach.

Not that we have to make excuses to strangers on the internet, of course.

You do to strangers on the internet who take away followings far too seriously.

I’ve got nothing against recording away support but some people take things way too seriously.

I’ve also never been shown what an acceptable away support should be either.

BTW our away support at Crawley yesterday would have been our home numbers less than a decade ago.

This is the windmilling thread regarding away support, if anyone was unaware. Participation is voluntary.

Definitely voluntary, but that doesn't mean people can't take the piss out of the folk who take things way too seriously when it comes to this particular type of football willy waving.

Of course you don’t need to make excuses for an abysmal following, it was what it was.

Definitely plenty in here who take away followings too seriously.

The_Viking_Magpie takes not taking away followings seriously too seriously and in doing so is curiously starting to take away followings too seriously.

Nailed it.

It's a mildly fascinating and puzzling sub-culture within lower league football fans. I've spotted an obvious correlation already which the regulars didn't seemingly approve (which was all the confirmation required) but this study is going to need far more observation and analysis to answer the big one "why do certain individuals care so much about how many people other clubs take away from home?"

It sure is a doozy especially when we all know Leeds would (and do) take more

Notts County increasing their lead over Grimsby, so Viking can't put his willy back inside his pants yet, despite a poor showing at Colchester as Grimsby were apparently affected by 'No Trains'.

Trains affected everyone, but more to that Grimsby following than that. To be fair I spotted quite a lot of stags fans asking for lifts locally and from our London based supporters too for our game against Gillingham.

I thought that was a decent following, not that i ever made an attempt to go as it’s south of birmingham

Yeah plenty more going on. I've done about 30 aways since the start of 21/22 and Swindon last season was hands down the shittest of the lot by a mile. Throw in the ridiculous ticket prices, the fact that we seldom travel well to Swindon, poor form on top of trains not going from GY and it's not surprising that it was a crap following. It was definitely lower than I expected though.

Every club have plenty of examples of crap followings last time I checked.

Funny how some boring bastards say they aren’t bothered about away followings but then spend lots of time posting dozens of times in the away support thread.

There is somebody that has posted 15 times in this thread since Saturday but remember everybody he’s not bothered he’s just in here for curiosity and to take the piss out of people who do care about away followings.

Apparently.

Well someone is clearly RATTLED

I'm just trying to find out why you care so much about away followings and like to take the piss out of others on this subject.

I'm not really making excuses, more offering a bit more context to Conks' post. I'd say it was more crap than abysmal too, it's almost a 400 mile round trip on a train strike day when all is said and done. Still though, I'm surprised that the South East contingent didn't tip it over 500. We've taken more than double Saturday's following on Tuesdays to the likes of Bromley and Wealdstone in recent seasons.

I was just joshing SoC, I'm the last person who needs to hear any excuses.

It was clear and obvious that there was more at play than just train strikes when looking at sub 400 for any Town away game. Surely the recent run of defeats is the biggest factor?
