However everyone knows clubs take higher numbers on afternoon games as against evening games as well as games which are close to the away side ( ie Derby matches).

I also thought that a mean average is not the correct way to do these but a better way is the median average. This reduces the effect of sell outs at derby games with small away capacities.

So I have done a proper willy waving table based on median average, distance travelled and if afternoon or night game.

So based on a travel distance of 150 miles on an afternoon or a night game distance of 100 miles here is the list.

I don't think there are any surprises.

Weirdly, I was bored at work yesterday and did a bit of digging into midweek long journeys and this re-affirms what I found is that Carlisle fans have been class this season. Mansfield and Stockport haven't really had any long midweek journeys from what I could see so they've slipped down this table.

Top stuff as always mate, thanks for doing it.

Annoyingly quite a few of our more local games have been evenings this season, reducing potential for big away followings - Orient, Crawley and Sutton.

I think if we start well next season we'll average somewhere around the 700 mark.

I’d equate Carlisle fans with Plymouth fans, it’s a much smaller place, with lower home crowds but always travel well considering the distance.

Plymouth fans amaze me to be honest, I know this season there’re having a great one but even when they’re doing shit their away numbers are absolutely ridiculous, I rate them as one of the best away supports in the Country given the distances they travel every week.

Anyone got any averages for away fans at home grounds?

Away followings at VP haven’t been too bad this season - for a change.

We do travel well. When you consider that our shortest trips all have very small away allocations (Barrow, Hartlepool, Harrogate), our average becomes even more impressive. In fairness we have a lot of exiles - Cumbria is hardly a hive of industry, and many folk end up moving away to further their careers or go to university etc.

Stockport and Bradford are always well backed, but for me it's got to be Grimsby who have the most impressive backing for a rival league 2 team. Midtable, and some relatively long treks - but always there in decent numbers.

League 2 attendances on the whole have been decent this year, great to see.

Not to drag up and beat an already dead horse but our away capacity whilst already small used to be 1,000 (and still only sold out 2/3 times a season even now!) was made even smaller by your 6 fingered sister shaggers busting it up in back to back seasons.

There were times when they'd only bring 4 or 500 as well, them selling it out has only been a recent thing.

Absolutely buzzing, just managed to get tickets for Donny away that I thought I had no chance whatsoever of getting. Surprised that they made general sale but delighted that they did, so get to take my lad to Bradford away and then 9 days later Donny away.
And as a French philosopher once famously said: “Happy fucking days” :D

They have a substantial London Supporters’ Club and it’s a huge game, but for Carlisle to be bringing 1,000+ down tomorrow is astounding.

Our 'London Branch' may as well be named 'Exiled Supporters Branch' - the majority of its membership live outside of London. Think they only took 60 of the 1,000+ tickets we sold for Wimbledon, though I may be corrected on that.

Fantastic support, as always, from the Mariners, contributing to a terrific atmosphere.

Where else in the world would you get that at a 4th tier football match
Yes fully agree what a fantastic support even more so from a team with little to play for. Grimsby look a half decent team with some of the characteristics required to do well at this level, they are probably similar to ourselves from our 12/13 season when we reached the league cup final and our league form as a result constantly took a huge hit from fatigue etc. The difference only being is we had a squad way too good for L2 and as a result managed to salvage 7th place after the final and scraped up through the playoffs. Where as second half today they just looked like they'd had a long season and had nothing left, fair play though entertaining game which admittedly we didn't play great but we had to leave everything out there today to get the points.
