Ricky Holmes, Matty Taylor or Kemar Roofe. Winner announced on Sunday at the Football League awards and it's been voted for by all the managers in the league.

They've all been fantastic and could all easily win. Imagine them all in the same side!

I think it's obvious that Roofe will win. For me O'Toole should be in instead of Holmes, which is no bad thing on Holmes' part.

A little let down that Shaun Batt isn't on the shortlist.

Think Holmes is deserving, personally.

If Holmes had been fit all season then I have no doubt it would have gone to him. Not sure he will get it after only appearing in 25 games but his 10 goals have mostly been worldies and throw in 8 assists to boot. Any of them deserving IMO although a few Oxford fans I know seemed to think Lundstram and Sercombe are more deserving.

All 3 have played and scored against us. Holmes and Roofe both scored pens. Not sure if Holmes played at Sixfields but he impressed at Field Mill. Roofe didn't impress in either game V us but I've seen all the highlights and a couple of live games on the box and it's clear to see why he has been shortlisted for this. Both our games v Brizzle haven't been very good spectacles but Taylor did score against us and his return infront of goal is outstanding.

1. Roofe. 2. Taylor 3. Holmes for me. That's only because Holmes missed a good chunk of the season.

I would of had Billy Kee on the shortlist though, Something like 17 goals and 13/14 assists. We should've kept him and got him fit.

Hope Roofe wins it, although he's behind Lundstram on our forum player of the year poll.

You could make a case for all three, realistically. Obviously I'd want Matty to win it, but it's not like I don't think the other two are deserving either. If it wasn't Matty, I'd edge for Roofe purely because he's played throughout the season, even though Holmes has probably had the best single spell.

But realistically, the only reason Matty won't win it is if they're afraid to see what he'll do with the trophy.

Matty Taylor top scorer in the country! a goal every 118 minutes this season in his first season in the football league! Kemar Roofe is also just as deserving, even tho he has gone a bit quiet now. Had a great Fa cup also.

I think Roofe has probably received more attention than any other player in the league - not to say he should win it, I don't think many people would have any problem with any of the names on the list winning it. Great to see a thread of people being generally positive about something.

Jay Simpson was superb until January, but I can understand why he hasn't been selected only 3 goals in the last 4 months.

I'd give it to Roofe - Consistent for the whole season.

Taylor had a slow start and Holmes gets injured for at least 2 months usually in a season, so Kemar Roofe gets my vote.

Believe he had a short term loan there at the end of last season but was signed on a permanent in the summer.

I guess Leon Legge needs to let Roofe out of his pocket to pick up his award. Roofe for me though, very good player.

If I was to personally vote for the three players I have been most impressed with this season, only Taylor would be up there out of the three. Having not yet seen Accrington (where I expect to be impressed by Windass again) or Portsmouth, and having rarely watched the football league show ('cos I refuse to watch when we lose), and having not watched many of the games on TV, there is a very short list of players to have impressed me this season. Due to reasons above, I didn't even know who Holmes played for until I read this thread, not sure he played against us but he certainly didn't impress if he did.

Lutons goalkeeper had an absolute blinder against us, in probably the only game we looked half decent under the Dinosaur.
Taylor scored about 17 goals against us this season.
Both Hery and Ibehre at Carlisle were very impressive in the game at our place.
The only single outstanding player I have seen was Sinclair of Bristol Rovers. A class act.

Been unimpressed by Roofe in both our games against Oxford, Taylor not much better tbh. Both are in very good sides sides that create plenty of good chances. Roofe needing over 100 shots at goal to score 17 is far from great.
Holmes is a different story, tore us apart at Northampton and creates goals from nothing. Just a shame he can't stay injury free. Agree about Kee, should be in the list imo

All great players but for obvious reasons Taylor gets my vote.

His goals to minutes played ratio is superb and he's on course for 30+ this season if he continues his current strike rate; especially if we're in the play off's. Also worth pointing out that only 1 of his 26 goals was a penalty.

He would have no doubt scored even more had we done even half decent in any of the cup competitions.

He's not just a goal scorer either, he's a great all round player and Rovers always perform better when he's in the team. Check out his vision and pass to set up Sinclair against Luton last August.

I'd probably have had O'Toole ahead of Holmes for our pick, both have been class though. Holmes didn't play at Hartlepool.

Not seen enough of the other two to properly comment, suspect it will go to Roofe though.

Since his first appearance of the season at Luton Holmes has been on his own personal goal of the season crusade. Unbelievable to think we got him for free.
Agree though that I seem to think roofe will get it.

Will Holmes get Northampton's player of the year? 27 games not enough for me for theirs, let alone the league's. Great player though.

Worth remembering with Roofe that he isn't an out and out forward, so his goal scoring record is more impressive than it might seem. Only seen Taylor twice this season - was excellent at the Kassam, was average at the Mem. Is he being linked with a big move away somewhere? For some reason I can't imagine him being as sought after as Roofe; but that might just be ignorance.

I was never all that impressed with Matty Taylor in the Conference. He could score a goal, but never stood out. His performances this year have surprised me. I'll be surprised if he can back it up next season.

He's out of contract in the summer, been linked with Hearts a few times I believe.

To be fair to Matty Taylor he has improved his achilles heel this season, which was six shots to score one goal. He looks much more clinical, it's not just his goals though he is always reading the game looking for the best opportunity to create a goal be it him or another who scores. I think Roofe will be the winner though, just by the amount of coverage he has had. Holmes us a great player doing well in the best side in league 2 this season, but whatever team he was in he will always do well good professional, best player this year though I don't think so

No one's knows the truth of those rumours, Hearts fans believe it be the other Matt Taylor. As of now the man himself has said that he won't discuss contracts till after the end of the season and will see where we are.....
