We can’t. We can sign perms (free agent’s only) and 1 year loans but no loan fees. The outstanding EFL loan is interest free and only needs to be repaid if a club breaches the restrictions attached to the loan.

At the moment the club are happy to have those restrictions in place and use the £1m loan (I think that’s the amount) for more pressing matters.

Garner only wants a small squad, apparently. 18 and then padded out with youths. I imagine they will see how we go until January and, depending on how we’re doing, either go for it or just keep ticking over until next season.

Tbh, I can’t see how they’ve attracted the quality of player on the premise of ‘just poodling around’ for a season.

If we do, I put us from staying up to relegated. I think we can just about cope with losing 1 of our two centre backs over the summer in Bennett, but if we lose Hayden as well I think we’ll be far too weak in that position with the personnel we have and we’ll get absolutely murdered by most teams at this level.

It's Wrexham

Don't know what Hayden's release clause is but whatever it is I'm sure Wrexham can meet it so it's just a question of whether Hayden would rather play in League Two or non-League.

Looking at the way transfers have gone this summer though the likes of Wrexham and Stockport can offer salaries big enough to overcome any player's doubts about dropping out of the league.

For once though our problem isn't offering only one-year deals. We've always been early to tie Hayden down to a contract as he's one of our most important players, though as it stands he only has a year left on his contract it was a two-year deal when he signed it.

If he does go then you can knock maybe five places off any prediction anyone's made on our finishing position. It's a huge blow for us considering we were already light in defence, we're gonna be extremely light now.

Yes. Everything you’d want in a lower league defender. Good in the air, big, strong, fast, a pure athlete.
He could play at a higher level than League 2 for sure.

Think they were specifically referring to opening day fixtures, they didn't say today but my assumption seeing that non-league fans were posting on an opening-day lineups thread was that it was today.

Yeah I agree, I very much doubt he'd be allowed to play for us in a friendly if the deal wasn't done and if it isn't announced before the game he won't magically show up in the lineup.
