We're making a signing tomorrow. All we've got is that he can play in a few positions so it could be anyone really. Few murmurs of it being Gareth Evans at Pompey but not sure how he'd fit in position wise so I doubt it.
you do know he used to play for you ?????

Yes of course I do, which actually makes it more of a possibility the way we've done our business this summer.

Anyway, Nixon, who's close to McCall, thinks its happening and he's just posted a goodbye message to pompey fans so looks like its true.

Good acquisition but no idea where he's going to play.

It’s one of them; it’ll be a false perception from our fans, as they’ll judge Evans on his first stint at the club. For those who actually follow football, away from the anti-Rupp forum/social media platforms; the very fans who were here before we were spoilt with Cup finals and boring Parkinson long-ball; them fans will understand that Evans has become more of a right wing-back/defensive midfielder, come penalty-taking wizard - as opposed to a “Vaughan replacement”.

In all seriousness, he has vast experience; he’s a player who can cover the gaps; knows where the net is, too.

Wonder how he feels about being smashed by Michael Flynn, after he made his switch to Rotherham - almost ten years ago. Not gonna lie, I quite enjoyed watching him lay motionless near the advertising boards at VP whilst Flynn jogged away with his rise smile.

‘Oh Michael Flynn, my Lord, Michael Flynn’.

The BBC tonight are saying something different. First, that the PL claim they do not know what the EFL want the money for, and they appear to want precise details of who, how much and why. Second, they seem to be implying that it could be sort of means tested. That an EFL club needs to demonstrate need. So clubs like Brum who just sold someone for a load of moolar might not get anything. The article makes reference to Exeter maybe not getting any because of the Watkins windfall. Which to me sounds absolutely outrageous and wrong. Why should, someone like Stevenage get access to a loan and Exeter not?

Clubs who have been financially prudent or have long term income generation through their academies could be penalised, whereas the spendthrifts could be rescued.

What worries me is that such an illogical argument on financial imprudence would appeal to the EFL.
I would be fuming if that happened. And it would be the death of the Academy

Oh it will happen for sure. Everyone in each division should get an equal amount, I'll be fuming too if the season ends and we get less money than the clubs that are wildly spending beyond their means.

I remember when there was a payout years later for the ITV Digital collapse. The collapse that was a ridiculous blow to take for smaller second tier clubs at the time, like ourselves. It basically plunged us into a double relegation from which we've never recovered. The proposal was to pay out to clubs based on their current division as opposed to the division they were in when the company went bust. So you had the likes of Hull, Cardiff, Swansea, etc. that were fourth tier clubs back when it happened picking up the cheques while the likes of us and Stockport got scraps.

My point is that , as we all know, the EFL can't be relied on to make the correct decision so signing the likes of Feeney or Doyle is actually going to work out well for those clubs that abandoned any notion of a sensible approach to COVID.

Why should Grimsby,Exeter get the same amount as Bradford,Bolton The payout is for lost fans. In all due respect it should go off last seasons average home attendance.

Because clubs like Grimsby rely more on their gate receipts to stay afloat than clubs like Bolton who basically don't have a financial plan of any sort and end up in admin every few seasons.

I remember seeing a table a few seasons ago of clubs reliance on gate receipts and we were 4th or 5th in the entire Football League. Sheff Utd were above us as well, who obviously wouldn't be now.

Also if the payout is for lost fans then Swindon should get the most because Indian Dan is always still hanging out in the League Two forum!!!

It’s a bit dead in the L1 forum, tbh. It’s comfortable here where I can look down on you inferiors and pretend we’re actually going somewhere.

You've been a financial basket case for the whole of the last decade at least and you're spending loads again, during COVID times, straight after only just getting out of the shit...under a chairperson who has never undertaken such a role at a football club unless I'm mistaken.

Haha yeah, well this is an ongoing saga that goes back to the mid-90s. I don't think Fenty even believes it will happen now.

I suppose if you ask nicely we could help with design and ideas for a new multi-use training facility, like the RH Academy made famous on The Fishy:lol:

we are under a embargo...and a £1.5m cap. I am not naive enough to know we have proberbly gone over that because we signed three of our highest earners pre the cap.
I would say Tranmere,Salford and Mansfield will have certainly spent more.
The chairperson you mentioned has been like a breath of fresh air since taking over. She is a very clever business woman as are the others involved at the top.
They are using the moneyball business principle.
Yes covid will hit us harder than most, but the is only one way this club is going now....up

Only thing Mansfield spent more on than Bolton is transfer fees because they are not allowed, and the best thing about that is we sold CJ so in that respect we are in profit

Moneyball?signing Doyle for 4 years on a large wage with no residual value isn’t moneyball. Suicide more like. Ditto Sarcevic.

It is the intention.

We are only about 2 months into it. It's players like Hickman and Gordon that are the targets of that, players like Doyle and Sarce were signed with the intention of getting us going and up quickly... Which is going swimmingly so far.

The payout is for keeping the clubs going, principally paying the wages of staff and players, which should be roughly the same throughout all clubs.
