Hurst is the only one who's got a tune out of Payne in the EFL, although it was his second spell with him (first being on loan) that was his best.

We have been shafted by Luton and Northampton....We had Peter Kioso on a season long loan
Luton recalled him two weeks ago........never even made Lutons bench
Give it two weeks and they then loan him to Northampton

At least they tried to hide it - Robbie Cundy was recalled from Cambridge today by Bristol City and sent straight to Gillingham.

What's the problem? Teams move their loan players to bigger clubs all the time.

Happens all the time. If a player is doing well on loan at a certain club, then it's quite possible that clubs will either want a bigger wage contribution (hence why we lost Uche Ikpeazu to Doncaster and Tom Hitchcock to Rotherham in our mid 2010s L1 days) or they'll just want to loan them to a club in a higher division if they feel they need more of a challenge. It's not being shafted, it's for the benefit of the parent club and the player first and foremost.

If a player is going to play regularly for his Championship club in the future but is loaned out to League Two, then it's perfectly natural for the parent club to see how the player would get on in League One if he's finding League Two to be an absolute breeze.

Ray got back into the team recently for a couple of games due to injuries and put in near faultless performances. Unlucky to lose his starting place in the team and is now on the bench. Seen it mentioned elsewhere that he is one of our top earners, so maybe that is a stumbling block in moving him on.
Ray had a couple of games when Clarke was unavailable and did a decent job. Might be ok at this level, less sure about L1, after a few toe curling appearances last year. Ellis the better defender but not so adept at playing out from the back, which Keith Hill seems to want, so apparently told he can go.

We offered him a 2 year deal as one of our highest earners and club captain and I think you offered him £500 a week more in basic pay. Ray was always a liability in League One for us and that almost led to us giving him a free transfer to Cambridge after Davis froze him out of the team back in League Two. However, Davis was sacked and Artell immediately restored him to the team and made him captain.

He's a League Two defender who will give 100% but always has 1 game in 10 where he drops an absolute bollock. And that's probably once every other game at League One level. Can almost certainly see him end up at Stockport or Wrexham in the Summer as he's a Warrington lad, he's an upgrade on what they both have at the back right now and I get the feeling he wouldn't want to relocate as he was very reluctant about the Cambridge move when it was first mooted in 2016-17. I think they'd pay better than the likes of Morecambe (a graveyard of ex Crewe players) and Barrow as well, two other clubs I could see come in for him.

Shame about Ellis but again, you're spot on with him. He's an old school warrior who'll go in for every ball and every tackle. But his body is made of glass. He's had some real bad injuries but he's a top old school professional and I hope he stays in the league. But he can't play with his ball to feet, he never could in League One with us. So can understand why Hill wants to move him on. He's a regular in the stands at Gresty Road when he's not playing and I can see him coming back to the club as an Academy coach one day when he hangs his boots up.

No will usually be a recall clause in January, if the parent club thinks they can go a league higher then they will pull them and send them back out. They don’t care about Bolton only their players development.

When we were in league one we nabbed Tyler Walker from Stevenage for example. He had scored a fair few in a short spell so Forest felt he should go up a level (sadly after a handful of games got a season ending injury)

I guess Bolton fans will need to get used to that sort of thing down here :p when a club from a higher league feels they need to push their player further they will just recall him around his time and loan him to a club in higher league, happened to us a few times down the years.

Also an old trick that all clubs use according to Martin Ling our DOF is that clubs recall players on purpose to try and force the club who had them on loan to try and buy them - Its happened to us before and its something we've also done ourselves with our own players.

Ways of the lower leagues.

We will definitely sign Mark Ellis, we've already got 7 million defenders so one more can't hurt.

Imagine using loan players to build a team. LOL.

RIP Yeovil and their stupid model.

Not necessarily.

Last season we got done last minute by Tyler Walker being recalled by Forest, albeit they had to pay us to cancel the loan (in the form of Liam Bridcutt rather than money in the end), whereas this season they all had recall deadlines of mid-January.

Just heard Crawley and Scunthorpe bid the same amount for Davide Rodari but the player choose Crawley as it's a lot closer to home. (Source Hastings Utd chairman on website).

I must say Scunthorpe have a wide net for looking at players.

Embleton said on Saturday he hopes to bring in another defender this week - Hopefully a right back.

Also we've been linked with Omar Bogle from Charlton, Lee Angol injured his other hamstring on Saturday against FGR so will likely be out again for 6-8 weeks if its a serious as the other two times he's done it since he signed for us.

Plus with Danny Johnson injured for probably at least another month we're a little short of striker options, Ruel Sotiriou can play there but hasn't had enough game time due to injuries and has struggled for fitness this season so hasn't shown as good a form as he did last season when he has played.

If you’re happy with signing a player who was bang average in the conference 6 years ago then you’ll no doubt be happy to go back there.

I'm happy signing a player that is better than any striker we currently have and who was a regular with Payne for Shrewsbury league one play off campaign a couple seasons ago. You forget Hurst doesn't just sign on technical ability but also what they bring to the dressing room. Listening to his previous signings and the respect they have for Hurst should tell you that

He's done more with his career along with Hurst than town have done since we got promoted.

Though if you are happy limping along with a strikers that have either been with us for two relegation fights or strikers signed by Holloway that have done nothing higher than about step 7 that's up to you.

Can you recall a player in the same transfer window you loaned him out?

If you can then I don't understand why Bolton wouldn't recall Taft

Think it all depends on the terms agreed - Scunthorpe might've insisted on no recall clause.

Not being happy with Lenell John-Lewis doesn’t mean I’m also happy with what we’ve got.

That defeatist ‘there’s nobody else’ attitude is exactly why we’re in this mess

A huge problem Hurst has faced in Jan is knowing that we've got a run of fixtures against all the sides around us, but also knowing the best deals in this window for lower league sides get done towards the end of it. So does he limp on with what he's got and go all out for some top targets, praying Hanson stays fit and gets up to speed in the meantime or does he go for a few tried and tested options that aren't ideal but could be good enough to patch us up and get us over the line and also give us a bit of flexibility to bring in another attacking player in the last few days of the window? That seems to me to be a tough balancing act.

I see both sides of yours and Gladders arguments on LJL, it's not ideal and doesn't set the pulses racing, however he was definitely better than bang average for the fifth tier when he left here and went on to do alright at Newport. But that was then, of course. I suspect he has been brought in as a safeguard against Hanson's fitness as they're essentially going to be playing the same role in an XI. Gonna have to admit though, there's definitely more than a small part of me that would like to see Hamez and Lenny up front in a two. Surely it can't happen, surely it would never work...but if it does? If we're going down, I hope we go down smashing the fuck out of some CBs at least.

We've confirmed, for I think the fourth time this month, that Kayode will be staying for the remainder of the season.

Rotherham have been making the right noises about this since the window opened and we have reported a few times that Paul Warne is keen for him to stay out on loan. There is of course no such thing as a guarantee that a player won't be recalled during the transfer window, only the word of his parent club, which is why we keep treating everything Paul Warne says as news, but I highly doubt he is going anywhere.
