If you can get him playing a run of games he wouldn't be just good he would be a great signing. Almost every single attribute you would want in a midfielder he has.

The downside as you may have seen above is you don't see it often as his body is made of glass.

I guess Clarke/Flitcroft can no longer be arsed with him spending 2/3rds of the season injured.

Shame but it's one of those things.

162 appearances in a 10 year career. Awful record.
Yea that's wank. We do have a big enough squad to cover injurys right now, so maybe he's hoping he can be an impact player a few times. We've got about a thousand games in the next few weeks so definitely need the legs

Yeah if you can keep him going long enough through to the end of the season and playoffs you will go up and will more than pay back what you've spent. He is that good when he plays. Get used to wincing each time he takes even the slightest of touches though in the hope he can get back up, becomes par for the course with Manny.

We need to get out of this shite and back playing the likes of you boys again anyway, so fingers crossed your theory comes true there!

Yeah wish Manny all the best but clear Flitcroft isn’t going to offer him a deal and now we are safe if we make 10k we may as well.

Our winning record when he plays is ridiculous. We are a completely different side but he was stop start the first season with injuries; last season he played the first game and a half got injured during that game, returned for 9 minutes a month later and was out for the season!

This year he’s again been in and out, this is the longest spell he’s had fit in a couple of years... 6 games. If he can get fit he’s a level above league two. Sadly it’s seemingly impossible but he’s a beast and a great lad so would love him to get the problems behind him and do well.

quite a brave decision from vale because even with his injury record, he's that good when he plays that the team does better.

i'm a bit gutted to be honest, would have loved to give him 1 more year to see if a flitcroft/clarke set up would help his fitness.

Chesterfield have got one hell of a signing for the time he is available. there wont be many better in league 2 on their day never mind the conference.

We are usually the prime target for signing decent players who are perpetually injured. Surprised we haven't put in a bid

I do wonder if the club have made this calculation in terms of Manny if this might have some implications for Monty also. Let’s be honest his availability is rather questionable also and DC has implied before in his case it might be more psychological as well with him.

It does make you wonder certainly, another who’s good when available, missed again at the weekend.

Will be a ride this summer thats for sure, I fancy we will invest in the squad fairly well this season. Got to get it right though.

Yep, all signs point to this being a very different looking Vale squad in general. What it will look like I don’t know but should be interesting to follow.

Hopefully with the structure we now have in place some of the lazy recruitment of the past should be minimised. By that I mean not just searching Transfermarkt for former Macc players. If nothing else though hopefully no repeat of the Jamille Matt and Nicky Maynard saga from the summer. After hearing that on the Ale and the Vale pod I have to admit I did sour on Askey a bit.

Yeah but literally every 50/50 or somewhat firm challenge leaves you concerned how many this months off it'll be this time.

It's too big a threat when the aim is to build a promotion squad. Wasting money but more importantly a finite >21 years old squad place on a player who will go missing for 30 games in the blink of an eye from a seemingly nothing collision.
but i just love him so much

It was from the Salford (a) review about 32 minutes in. Back during that time we could barely land a shot on target never mind score.

Yeah basically Matt was at the club and ready to sign but we held out for Maynard and by the time that didn’t happen he’d agreed to go FGR... so we got Theo instead.

Matt would have been perfect in the one up top role we were playing whereas Theo hasn’t been.

Safe to say Askey for all we have to thank him for last season which was memorable he balls up on recruitment and many other things last summer and into this season. Fitness levels crap, one CDM for a system he always plays that relies on it, no medicals apparently, none of the modern stuff.

Funny that, because our chairman also said we had Jamille Matt ready to sign on the dotted line before David Dunn pulled the plug on that deal.

I wonder how many other clubs nearly signed Jamille Matt?

i hate sticking the boot in on askey, and i also hate labelling things as non league just because they turn out a bit shit, but looking back his whole mentality was just that. he's perfect for a club without a pot to piss in. he'll over achieve on a nothing budget.

how can a league manager sign players without medicals and fail to recruit for a key position in the one formation you play?

it really wouldnt surprise me if it turned out kevan was driving the coach and washing the kits, thats how small time that set up was.

Aye, don’t get me wrong when I say soured a bit on Askey for me the good still outweighed the bad and I certainly will remember his time well overall. The Matt thing was infuriating to hear not least as he was always better suited to us than a past it Maynard anyway and just spoke to the kind of thing that was a hangover from the Smurthwaite era. I would bet the no medicals thing was from that as well so the old miser could save a few quid.

I do think however someone like Colchester could have done ok with him this year. A club whose owner has been looking to make savings etc Askey would have had them comfortably mid table I reckon rather than flirting with the drop.

As a few have pointed out he is when fit. Has had a poor fitness record at Vale but we have generally gained points in the games he has played and struggled without him.
A class above league 2 when at his best.

Memories of last season will last, up there with the promotion and 2003/04 levels and Askey is a lovely bloke but thats part of the problem, hes too nice, hes great in a skint side over achieving or like us last season with lower expectation but give him a decent budget and say get us up and it was a different story.

Wish him well though.

Seems everyone wanted a bit of big Jamma, and who can blame them. Without him we’d have been fucked.

Regarding montano he tends to play 30 odd games A season for us so even though he picks up injuries they only tend to be slight knocks and ends up only missing a few games. Manny you only get 15 games A season out of him and for half of those 15 games he won't be at his best due to not being match fit and having that sharpness you need. Yes he's a decent player but I'm glad he's gone as there's no point keeping a player that's injured for more than half a season.

Danny Rowe signing for Chesterfield having only signed here in January, can’t say I’m at all bothered.

Edit: Confirmed now, also the unsurprising news that we’ll try being Andy Cook in on a permanent deal.

That is a weird transfer.

I thought Rowe was doing alright at Bradford having bagged some goals since his January move. Bit surprised he’s dropped back out of the league so quickly having taken so long to get here. Does he have the desire for the game and ambition that a professional footballer needs? Considering he expressed the desire to drop down to the conference it smacks of a losers mentality. Doubt we’ll see him back at this level again.

Ajose is leaving! Thank f for that
Well that’s that then.

Doubt we’ll ever find out what happened but it’s clear Ajose will probably not get a good deal anywhere else. A wasted talent.

Taylor confirmed we will be #goingforit in the summer with some serious squad strengthening. He’s shown his hand early which is a bold move...If he doesn’t get it right there will be nowhere to hide.

Strange one. Lasted 5 months at Oldham and 3 with us, now back in non league.

Comes across as a player who throws his toys out of the pram if not playing.

Also unsubstantiated rumours that he had a training ground bust up with one of our players soon after arriving and then was unavailable for a few matches with 'a heavy cold'.

Not bothered about todays news to be honest
