Find it strange that some of our bang average/poor players from last season are getting fixed up with lge 1 clubs.

So, our fans lost their shit again last night - on Twitter etc. Basically, Vaughan liked this tweet which has caused our lot to speculate/panic/criticise board members again -Some are absolutely adamant he’s off. It wouldn’t make sense; surely if they wanted to sign him, it would’ve been done before the cap was implemented? Or, is Vaughan just on a wind-up?

The tweet was later taken down and Vaughan’s twitter account was disabled temporarily. I’m just sick of hearing about it, tbh.

Our LB, Connor Wood, also came from the Leicester setup. If this lad Clark is any good, let’s hope Wood puts in a good word.

I suspect they'll be players already signed up but intentionally delayed to give the impression they've been done post salary cap.

Good player, can play either on the left or right and is good going forward also. His second spell on loan he looked as though he’d made a leap forward. Certainly be an asset for any team in this league though would have thought maybe Leicester would prefer him to go to League 1.

If we were to try for him again Askey has said it would be at the end of the transfer window.

Bobby grant signed 12 month loan don’t know him that well but heard he can be troublesome any thoughts Scunthorpe Rochdale fans
Just nipping in to personally thank yourselves for taking him off our hands. Just a shame that it isn't a permanent deal as it means we are likely paying some of his wages still.

A lazy forward with a shocking attitude, who flipped our fans off earlier in the season. I wish you the best of luck but signing players like that will not prevent you from the drop.

Maybe just maybe these players could perform much better in a more stable environment than a previous car crash sort of scenario?!
No i dont think that is the case..Our best player last year before he left was Liam Bridcutt. Ally Crawford awesome in the few games he played and Jason Lowe was steady most weeks.....Politic and Darcy had good seasons even though they were kids. Mathews our keeper had a decent season and will get better proberbly at Sunderland

It's possible of course that there's no smoke and mirrors at all and he simply liked a post by an old friend and teammate - and that people, as is so often the case these days, are reading so much into nothing.

It’s certainly plausible. I think the main gripe from our lot is that he is liking every Tranmere post and not one post from our official account.

Sounds pathetic, doesn’t it? That’s nowt, take a look at our forum - complete meltdown from a set of melts.

...but why the smoke and mirrors?

It is odd how this has played out. It certainly isn't anything either Tranmere or Bradford have done wrong at all and just seems to be Vaughan engineering a move. We've made a point of keeping everything under wraps from deciding who the new gaffer would be to the signings we've made so far.

I liked Vaughan last season. Him and Ferrier really started to link up well and were exceptional in our win at Blackpool in the last game before lockdown so would like for us to sign him. However we wouldn't want to break the bank for him and with the wage demands, I'm really struggling to see how we'd get it done!

Was Vaughan even good enough last season to justify all this? Two more goals in L2 than "fucking pants" James Hanson suggests not.

Exactly, unless the signing has been completed before the cap was implemented - which, for me, doesn’t make any sense to delay the announcement.

As I have touched on before, signing Vaughan would have cost your club in excess of £700k just in fees/wages alone. If you’re planning an approach now, he will have to accept a significant drop in wages.

There was a notable change in how we played last season when he did arrive after a few games and he had settled. His partnership with Ferrier had the potential to grow into a formidable pairing and as a front two for League 2, it would certainly be up there.

I think a lot from Vaughan's side is that he's a Merseyside lad who might prefer playing his footy close to home. He was received very well by our supporters and had a good relationship with the other players and staff. The question is what the finances around any deal would be. We've started off being fairly clever regarding our player recruitment and doubt we'd want to hamper any future good signings by breaking the bank on one player.

14 in 35 league appearances (8 games in L1).

Gary Bowyer played him out of position, hence the fall out and move to Tranmere. He’ll easily manage 20 goals next season.

Yep agreed. That all said for some reason we have been announcing a few things later than they were officially completed.

I think he would take a wage cut. He'd be starting day in day out and he'd be closer to home so from a personal view it might work out. The only issue I see is the fee that would be paid to Bradford unless you guys really want rid of him. But that also makes no sense because despite all this, he is still a decent player to have at this level.

I cannot see Tranmere paying anything like 700k to bring Vaughan in....They have pushed the boat out to get spearing.

Spearing was a free and we wouldn't be paying him any more than 2.5k/3k a week. No way that deal would have been sanctioned if it was much more than that. We're fortunate that Mark Palios is also an accountant as well as an ex pro so in terms of balancing club finances and solid player recruitment, we couldn't have anyone better making the decisions alongside the gaffer.

We're not flush with cash but I'd also say we have a top half budget. However I just can't see how financially the Vaughan deal would play out!

James Hanson didn't play under the most boring and negative manager in the country in all fairness.

Not if Bradford demanded a fee.
Dont think you got Spearing for 2.5k Think Blackpool offered more than that and he turned them down.

It’s hard to say really. I know he lives on the Wirral and has family who live pretty much right next to our training ground. That alongside a 2 year deal probably meant we were able to get him a bit cheaper than what other clubs would have offered.

Otis Khan allegedly turned down League 1 clubs to come to Tranmere too. I think the facilities we have play a huge part as the training ground is in great nick and the Prenton Park pitch is now one of the best you can possibly get thanks to a much needed revamp!

So 11 in 27 for him in L2 vs 9 in 29 for Hanson. Hmmmm. Interesting.

You quite literally just described Michael Jolley's style last season, so yes he did haha.

Doyle was the top scorer in this division last year. Every team in L2 (bar Bradford) and quite a few in L1 would have been going after him. He is definitely close to being the top earner in L2, there are no sources to back that up but he has to be considering his performance last season.

Again, Vaughan was played out of position.

Hanson is great for the first 3 months, gets injured and struggles to find any form during the second-half of the season. I predicted he would do this before he kicked a ball, and he didn’t disappoint.

Same again next season, Hans.

Vaughan is a 20 goal-per-season striker at this level.

Unfortunately for Hanson, he’s never quite managed more than 13 league goals in one season - and even that attempt was 9 years ago.

Hanson's form didn't really dip during the second half of the season, in terms of performances so you got that wrong unfortunately. Some of his best games last season were under Holloway. It is interesting though that the best ever striker L2 has ever seen only got 2 more down here last season than someone like Hanson who is absolutely terrible, even despite Vaughan playing out of position you'd have thought that he'd have had a way more fruitful season than Hanson.
