I know that, but doubling the squad average wage takes up 10% of the overall budget. There’s a fine line for clubs to tread between attracting players due to wages and, in effect, watering down the rest of the squad because of it.

Randell will go for much more than £500,000 - I'd say £750,000-£1,000,000. If we are only offered £500k and given Watford take 40%, I'd hope we would turn it down. With ~£3m+ coming from the Ollie Watkins sale, we aren't desperate for cash, keep him for another year and just let his contract expire. Promotion is key this season and probably the best chance we'll have with most other clubs cash tight.

The problem now is that under normal circumstances a £500,000 player would expect, quite rightly, wages commensurate with that fee. A max of £2000 under the cap doesn’t get anywhere near.

Apart from the fact I don’t think he’s worth half that!
He’s a typical winger, blows hot and cold occasionally, but when he’s on his game he’s unplayable at L2 level. He’d be an excellent signing for any L1 club, however jury’s out on whether he’d be good enough in the Championship.

Hopefully we will hold out and get a decent fee for him. As Devon Lad says, if the Watkins deal goes through and we bank a huge sum, we may just reject bids and risk losing him for nothing in the summer. However, a club our size will always need income from player sales, so I think he will be sold by the end of the month.

We’ve got 2 players OOC who we’re offering new contracts to that are both better than him.

Grimsby have signed 6' 4", 20 year-old Spanish striker Alhagi Touray Sisay on an initial one year deal with the option for a second. Finished last season at Aberystwyth in the Welsh Premier, scoring 4 in 6. Was close to joining Hull last year. Feels like a bit of a punt this one.

Not sure what that has to do with anything, even if true. Randell is better than Stockley, and younger. We sold Stockley for £700,000 and it would've been higher had he not had a release clause. There is no way Randell is going for £500,000 or less. 14 assists and 5 goals in 37 games. Plus he's only 23.

There's multiple Championship clubs after him, who've been scouting him for months.

He was exceptional in the second semi-final match. Probably our best player. Our entire team was crap in the final.
Must have been a great feeling to get promoted into L1 at Wembley for the second time in three seasons though?

Third time in four years I think you'll find
Well you've heard the age old quandary, 'if a tree falls in woods when nobody is around...does it make a sound?' Similarly, if Exeter get fake promoted before Devon Lad was on 1FF, did it really happen?

He's done very well to get League 1. He works hard and is likeable but he doesn't have the qualities to play centre midfield and in my opinion was a weak link in our side. His touch is poor and he doesn't seem to know where players are around him (you know that sense that central midfielders just have for opposing players and teammates that other players don't - he doesn't have it), resulting in him always hooking the ball over his shoulder.. I thought he would be moving sideways or maybe a slim chance of down the pyramid, so well done to him. Might be alright on the wing.

Seems like every player mentioned in this thread so far has been ex Bradford. Burning through players much?
We definitely have done in recent times, though Furman was here at least ten years ago if not more so less so him.

Crap. Diabolical positioning, quite weak physically, we conceded loads down our left side when he played... But he played under Steven Pressley so give him the benefit of the doubt. He had good reviews north of the border when we signed him so he may turn out to be decent if you have a half competent coach.
Really surprised he got a 2 year deal.

2008-2009 season - cracking player! We had Furman and Nicky Law at CM that year. Still baffles me how we threw promotion away in those last 6 games.

Will probably be awesome for you... but then I suppose Reggie Lambe was the exact same Reggie Lambe at Cambridge as he was at Carlisle, if not a worse version. To be fair to him he wasn't bad going forward and if we'd not spent most of last season on the back-foot he may have looked a lot better.

Is Ryan Taylor going to Crawley? If so, hecould do a good job holding the ball up, and scoring a few goals. But the big question is how many games will you get out of him before he gets injured?

Taylor has said that we wont be signing anyone else. Two underwhelming signings and we are done. We just dont have the finances.
Just as well we didnt go up.
