Sad to see the proud Mariners throwing money around like this.

Hurst having a proper midlife crisis moment here. 8 grand a week for one player. I don't care how good a defender this fella is, we're in a cost of living crisis.
We've got about £1.8M worth of sweet sweet cup money burning a hole in our bank pocket so if El General's midlife crisis is splurging some of that on a Rolls Royce of a CB when we can't buy a striker because the likes of yourselves are inflating the market then I'm all in on that.

Make sure our cup money is on your tracker please Stocky.

We offered him a contract but it makes sense to sign for you for geographical reasons.
It’s because it’s always been his dream to play in an FA Cup final so he’s chosen the FA Cup quarter finalists as natural progression means we should be targeting the Semi’s this year and then the final in 24/25.

I imagine we'll be looking at young players who can hopefully develop their game this summer. 20-24 year olds for the first team and keep developing the infastructure of the academy in house with players 19 and below. Last three years we've sold a young player (Festus Arthur Hull 2020, Jack Hinchy Brighton 2021, Scott Holding 2022 -not massive fees) which shows the potential for growth.

If we sell senior player Will Collar for decent money as is potentially in the offing, there could be some of that put back into replacing him with someone who's at the peak of their powers but the spreadsheet will cover it all.

I really can't see us doing a Grimsby or a Gillingham this summer. Or god forbid a Wrexham.

Ironically that’s roughly the amount of money Notts County spent on transfer fees to get relegated from this division.

Yep can't see you doing a Grimsby this summer because you didn't get to the FA Cup QFs. You'll have a bit of playoff final money I guess. You'll be going bigger than you're suggesting though, I reckon. You usually do. Surprised you haven't dropped a marquee signing yet, you're usually on it early doors aren't you? Probably the late finish messing with DC's plans?

We've been told that it will be already. Owners have backtracked a bit but I suspect that's merely to stop people knowing we're putting it into the squad. They're making out like they're dropping over 300k on fixing the Main Stand now but I'm not sure on that. It obviously won't be the whole lot in one budget either, they'll spread it out over contract lengths.

Sounds like a lot of clubs throwing money at it up here, can we compete with all this reckless spending?

This McGoldrick stuff I'm reading, Wiki tells me the man played 10 times for Notts County in about 1983.

This "homecoming" stuff seems a little silly to me, they'll be handing the man his wages in a wheelbarrow each week.

We’ve been inspired by the Thierry Henry moving back to Arsenal style scenes that greeted Ben Foster’s emotional return to the club where he once played 17 games on loan.

I saw he was released but we've just signed a winger and Coutts looks to be old and injury prone now.
Could it be any you've offered contracts to or are they all signing up?
I can only think of Ryan Jones who hasnt featured much in the first team but has been loaned out (he does look a good prospect - turned down Peterborough for us apparently)
Out of the contracted players, Trevor Clarke was loaned out for most of last season and doesnt seem to be in Bartons plans. Ryan Loft doesnt seem to be good enough for L1 so he may also be transferred.

Shot being fired from Blundell Park. I'm ducking for cover.

Things are quiet at our end. We have 18-19 players contracted. The general consensus is we don't need loads and those that do come in will be younger players who can grow.

Don't rule out a play off defeat hangover.

Our first signing last year was Kyle Wootton at about this time, who was on marquee wages as we had to fight off Portsmouth but I had doubts whether his quality matched what we were paying him. But after a slow start to the season he ended up our POTS and TGS.

According to some presentation our DOF did we have room in the budget/squad for eight marquee players. He didn’t say who they were but I think I’ve worked out who are current eight are and ultimately we didn’t get getting from them last season.

Horsfall, Collar & Wootton were the only three who justified their wages.

Madden was decent but declining.

Sarcevic and Camps were below what would be expected of an average L2 player let alone marquee ones.

Barclay and Quigley were out on loan to other clubs in the division with us no doubt picking up a decent chunk of their wages.

Some serious wages being thrown about now, to compete we'll have to hope players are enticed by the opportunity to live and train within the fantastic scenery the Lake District* has to offer.

EIGHT marquee signings? That's not a squad mate that's a festival of excess.

He didn’t call them marquee. I can’t remember the exact words but basically first choice players who were proven in the EFL, expected to start, contribute heavily and are paid accordingly.

Rumours getting stronger that we've signed Agyei and that he'll be announced Friday. Also seems that Matty Foulds is off to Harrogate.

Tbh, it’s no different to Charlie Austin signing for us again. That didn’t cause a ripple.

Nah, they'll both get a big slap in the face and wonder why they're not 1st and 2nd when instead it'll be some gritty team no one expects like Accrington or Colchester.

Hope Agyei is true, though I’d file it under see it to believe it for now. Has always looked class against us even our top 6 league 1 squad when we played Burnley. I’ve no idea how his stats aren’t much better tbh. When Crewe beat us he probably put on the best individual performance since Dack for Gillingham, it’s rare to see in the lower leagues.

He looked quite bright in the 0-0 early in the season too. Would be happy if he signed. Much needed pace and a bit of trickery.

Seen us linked with a loan for Archie Mair a keeper from Norwich. Notts County and Mansfield also interested.

Agyei would be a very good signing for a league 2 club. Off the back of last season he deserves another crack at league 1 imo.

We want Christy Pym on a permanent so I’m not sure on that one unless it’s a backup option.
