To be fair, 8 of them came against gas and FGR who's defences were shocking

True tbf, but I suppose he could well be up against more defences as shocking as both ours this season, if not worse. Be very surprised if he doesn’t hit 20+ for Notts.

Seems like a great signing for Notts but for how long? he is 35 years old might get one good season out of him unless he is some sort of freak like a lower level Ronaldo.

A lot of our squad haven't played league football, if he stays fit for only a season he'll be worth it just for experience and know how I think.

People were writing off Wes Hoolahan at 39 and we got promoted because of him.

Not just the talent in the pitch but having players like him around will get an extra 20% out of everyone else.

I’m not directly comparing but we were saying similar things when we signed ‘Championship captain’ Richie Smallwood this time last year.

We’re pretty strong in that position even when Ruben leaves as well so we should be able to manage his minutes sensibly. On paper he fits into what we’re doing perfectly in that Ruben position, definitely don’t expect us to struggle for goals again.

Always a lot of cynicism with ‘should be far too good for that level!’ mid-30s signings because the answer is always ‘they’re not anymore, that’s why they’re there’ (David Vaughan *shudders*).

McGoldrick’s obviously different in that regard which is what makes it so exciting. You’re not left wondering about why about 20 other clubs have just let him fall into your lap.

Think we’re in good shape overall, could start the season tomorrow and be relatively competitive. I’d like an upgrade at RCB (Rawlinson is what he is and I’m not really a Brindley fan), keeper obvs although Slocombe was far better than given credit for last season considering how much we ask our keepers to do and then I think we need competition/depth at LWB and CM (think it was pretty telling how much Chicksen got subbed off late in the season when he needed goals and Palmer/Bostock are obviously superb but we’ve got nothing behind them).

Andy Cook notched 31 goals last season. In the end, we were no where near.

They’ll need more than a goalscorer to walk this league.

I don't think any of us think we're going to walk the league. We didn't walk non league so no reason to think we'll be anything better than competitive.

Well, you sorta did. You were just unlucky Wrexham were slightly better.

Accumulating 107 points and not winning the league is unheard of.

To be fair though we cheated- paid off refs, bought League one players, Mullin got 48 penalties etc etc.

you need to be able to defend too - i mean we were probably the lowest scorers in the top half of the league - and we still scored 4 against you....

To be fair we had the 4th best defensive record. Our problem was a chronic lack of goals from midfield players to back up Cook

No rumours from the dream makers so far other than a dogshit 3rd keeper at Forest.

Money tap off, all the talk about being financially viable and sustainable to justify one of the most expensive season tickets in the EFL and tiered/category ticket prices in league 2

That’s because you missed a trick there, you should’ve put him in at RB for a few games like Hoskins and you might’ve got over the line.

Our director of football is that brain dead it wouldn’t surprise me if we sit on our hands and do nothing because we nearly got promoted from the weakest league 2 in a while.

I think we'll bring 3 or 4 quality players in from what I've heard.

Most of the quality players will have other offers to weigh up. It's the crap players or players from non league who seem to go early.

McGoldrick for Notts is the only signing I've seen that I'd have jumped at so far. And I think with his connections there it really is a bit of a one off in terms of a deal to be done.

Things will pick up in the next week or two.

But yes I imagine it will be young, hungry players who can develop and not some of the journeymen type signings we've seen so far elsewhere.
