Yeah, I can’t quite see why, of all the forwards you would throw money at, that Hanlan would be near the top of the list.

He’s not terrible, and in fairness we are bad at playing to his strengths, but I just think you could do better for the same money, especially since Wrexham will have the pull of the hype train right now, and players will want to sign for them.

As long as we can get a replacement in time, I certainly wouldn’t miss him that much.

But to be fair we owe Wrexham a non-scoring striker for signing Craig Faulconbridge off them many years ago. What was that, 8 goals in three seasons? *shudders*

Faulconbridge, what a nob. He thought he was amazing.

What we don't have is a player with pace who can come off a bench and stretch teams. We have goalscorers in the side so that's not necessarily the priority. We are just very one paced.

OK, that makes a little more sense then. Hanlan at his best is a massive pain in the arse in terms of his pace and physicality.

But his best hasn’t come around that often for us. Sounds like you have more realistic expectations of what he might bring to the table though.

Do NOT expect him to have any aerial ability though, there are few forwards I’ve seen that are worse in the air - oddly Ali Al-Hamadi is one, now banging them in for AFCW, but there you go.

Rumours are that Hanlan is pretty much a done deal. Apparently we are looking at Ben Garratt as well- GK last at Burton, ex-Crewe.

You'll be conceding a lot of long range goals if Garratt is your first choice keeper.

Was so good when he burst onto the scene and in our embarrassing 15-16 relegation he was brilliant and kept a lot of our defeats looking respectable when we deserved to be thrashed.

The moment we dropped into League Two though he regressed dramatically and he was awful in his final season with us. Seemed to concede long range goals almost every game. Indeed, when we played against Burton, we scored from long range past him ourselves!

I'm not sure if he's the right keeper for a club like Wrexham. I wouldn't have him back with us as much as I like the lad. But I do think this is his last chance in the EFL and, as a great pro, he deserves that chance.

Rumours Crawley are close to signing Maguire from Chesterfield.

Centre back brother kf the England captain. Was mainly injured last season.

He seemed to have completely lost any confidence at Burton too conceding goals for fun. Seems like a stopgap signing tbh- if its a short term contract initially to see how he gets on I think that'll be sensible, if we give him a three year deal I'll be a little more worried.

Lyle Taylor also rumoured. Bit of a nob isn't he?

They wanted similar from us when you were still involved. I'd imagine the add ons probably add up to all that with promotion, champions, top scorer bonuses etc.
Probably totals near £500k. Guessing we thought £300k was enough and backed out. Good player but your front 2 looked ace against us. Without watching your other games it's surprising to me that you're splashing so much on a striker.

That being said, we made Charlie Austin look a Premier league player again and Dover stuck 5 past a similar defence.

That's an obscene for Luke Armstrong. He's a good player at this level and I'd snap hands off to get him here as we're crying out for a player like him but 250k is loads for him let alone 375 rising to 650k.

MK Dons have slipped under the radar a bit in terms of spending. Interestingly they were the first team Hursty referenced a few weeks back when moaning about other clubs inflating the market in the division.

We have a good first 11, maybe add 2 or 3 others beyond that but otherwise we are really lacking in depth and Eisa has missed around 1/4 of the last 2 seasons so we really need another option or two up top, along with further depth additions which is where Payne comes in I’d imagine.

They wanted £500k off us.

Anything above £300k seems too much.

Wrexham tax, same with Norwood. We have brought it on ourselves a bit I guess.

In general the prices this summer seem inflated, particularly for strikers, even without the extra 150k that people seem to add on when it's us. Harrogate wanting 500k for Armstrong and Exeter 1m for Nombe- cut those in half and they sound a bit more reasonable.

That said Armstrong looks a good signing for MK Dons. As you say there is a good first XI there but no depth. Quality additions to the squad and they look like real title contenders.

A decent player at this level Armstrong; but nowhere near worth £500k. Do you reckon clubs quote higher prices to you due to the Hollywood lolly?

I would think he is worth paying £150k tops

Not really. No club is forced to pay a ridiculous fee for him. Harrogate desperate to hang on to their best player.

I think he might force a move this week though, didn't he refuse to play in the first game of the season?

Sounds like we’ve had personal terms agreed for a while so it was simply a case of agreeing a fee. We held off for weeks after our first interest so I can only imagine Harrogate have lowered their valuation enough for us to feel confident about it.

Wrexham tax kicked in big time

It's also probably got something to do with not everyone happy to move to Wales / Cheshire

Surprised Wrexham need to make any new signings considering League 2 is terrible and we’d all lose to Dorking.

Any Newport fans on here? Rumour started last night that we’re signing Will Evans who’s scored something like 7 goals already this season, so assume he’s decent.

Would cost a fee but with Nombe going this week, we should have the dough.

They 100% are.

Do think our pre-season has been crap though. Boyle's okay but not really blown anyone away, we've brought in 2 young keepers who nobody has heard of and likely won't feature at all this year, leaving our best signing (on paper) to be McClean. I honestly expected more.
