You definitely need him based on last Saturday. You're literally the only league 2 team in 3 years we've looked a threat from set pieces against.
This might have changed as it was from the 18th of December but there was a table and Forest Green had only scored 1 goal from set pieces this year, same as Stevenage which seems mental. You had only conceded 4 though.

Nobody has conceded more from set pieces than us at 12, it's more now as the table is a little outdated.

There is Stevenages problem then as they've built their club on scoring set pieces!

We have only scored once from a corner this season. Struggling to think of any via a free kick - either direct or otherwise.

2 pens, I think.

What's your best guess of your team Saturday? Do you think there will be a lot of churn from last week, and will some have moved out the door?

Very few guarantees to start, other than Maynard and Benning it’s pretty hard to say.

It doesn’t sound like we will see much if any movement at all by Saturday.

Sounds about right.

We have several issues with set pieces, one being usually all of our team other then our CB's are well under 6ft, another being our delivery far too often either hits the first man or is played short we fanny about and either lose it or it ends up getting passed all the way back to our keeper and on top of that, on the rare occasion the ball actually makes it into the box our players always seem to run too early and end up under the ball. For Mansfield to make us look like a side that is dangerous at set pieces took some doing, so fair play to them for that.

Jake Cassidy joins Stevenage from Maidenhead for a five figure fee.

Unbelievable. Anonymous in most games in the NL. An average at best target man who offers nothing other than winning a few headers.

Not sure if Westley or anyone at Stevenage has watched him for the last few years.
Remember him as a prospect at Wolves, had numerous clubs but according to wiki he has scored 500 in 28 games for Maidenhead. Shrewd to get him that cheaply then

Wish Salford would wait to start signing all these top players until after the weekend. Gonna get torn a new one at this rate.
Id actually rather Salford just hurry up and get it done this season so that they don’t possibly derail our title charge next season.

Apparently we have completed the signing of James Tilley from Brighton but won't be announced until Brighton have officially recalled him from Yeovil

Makes me laugh that HelloGregory is so certain his team are going down when the bottom 2 are rolling out attackers like Alex Revell, Jordan Slew, Shaun Miller, Ajay Leitch-Smith, Kevin Ellison, Craig Mackail-Smith and now Jake Cassidy. A collection of poor strikers who are either injured all the time or completely past it. Or both.

Quote directly from the manager

"Krystian was a tad unlucky to be left out because I've come in all guns blazing towards the skipper. I've had a good chat with him and I think we're on the same page. I'm looking to see a reaction now."

Hopefully it works out and we keep him here, way better than anything else we got at CB.

Could be a good piece of man management this. I wouldn't want Pearce based on his body language in some games lately but I'm happy to entertain the idea that this was symptomatic of extremely ineffective management rather Pearce being a 'bad apple'. If it fires him up and gets him leading again then he stay for me, there's certainly others I'd ship out first.

It was rumoured the first time Everton were interested, but hasn't been mentioned now so I doubt there's any loan-back as part of the deal. This doesn't necessarily mean he won't be loaned back, and I'd love for that to happen, with a couple weeks remaining of the transfer window (and I think loans can be completed for the week after that) there's a chance that once they get Branthwaite into their development squad they decide it might be best to loan him out after all.

I never really understand why these big clubs would much rather have their kids playing in meaningless development squad fixtures against similarly aged players, the majority of whom have never played a senior game in their lives; especially when they bring in someone like Branthwaite or other players poached from the lower leagues who have already shown themselves more than capable of going toe to toe with seasoned professionals. If Branthwaite's career progresses the same way most Premier League youths do (and he's only 17 now), then it could be four or five years before he plays his next senior game.

I would like to see a total root to tip reform of the entire youth development, transfer and loan systems, because currently it's broken. It lets down young players, it lets down lower-league clubs and it also lets down the development of home-grown internationals which the FA and EFL fucked the whole thing up to benefit in the first place.

No chance if what I’ve heard is right. Everton were open to loaning him back but Branthwaite and his agent have spent the last 2 weeks making sure it doesn’t happen. He has no intention of returning to Carlisle, wants to train day in day out at Everton and put Carlisle United in his past.

We have two more points, you got a game in hand, and I am not worried (foolishness?) at all, different story if we had two relegation spots though.

It’s the fact we’re getting worse by the week that’s worrying me.
weakening The squad this month won’t help either.

Our strikers make Shaun Miller look like Aguero.

Bit of a climb down from Coughlan? He'll not have been the first manager to try and stamp his authority on the squad by going after the captain or a senior player.

Appleton's just confirmed after our game that O'Connor is close to leaving, so the Salford move will probably be confirmed tomorrow or Thursday.

He's also letting Jack Payne leave if anyone wants him.

He was probably just trying to get a reaction in the first place, if we know he’s our best defender I think Coughlan will have a idea.

The ex-Sarfend player? He’s had a rough few years of it if so. Very promising player 6 or 7 years ago.
Yeah. He's not actually a bad player. Technically decent, gets stuck in and works incredibly hard but I just don't think he's quite mobile or athletic enough for Appleton. He likes box to box types and Payne's more a '10' who's busy in and around the opposition area.

If our dodgy rumour guy on Twitter is to be believed (he has his doubters) - Will Grigg will be signing for us on loan tomorrow.

Exactly the sort of player we could do with tbh. We have zero creativity in central areas.

Seems so. Bradford still want to offload Doyle but are asking way too much, apparently. Get him in the summer for nowt.

Exeter to Ross County must be one of the furthest shifts you could make in a (ETA UK obv) pro football transfer. Has he offended the Devon mafia and needs to get out of Dodge?

It feels all sorts of wrong that Doyle isn’t back at Swindon yet.

Bradford just do not know how to play Doyle, and the trouble is if they change the way they play at the moment they could quite easily blow their promotion hope's.
They are paying him his wages, which are rumoured at 5 or 6 grand a week, to a player who will be free agent in 6 months, and blowing it....(sic), from what I've read we put in a decent offer for him!
We played Crawley a couple of months ago, Doyle hat trick, Bradford played them last weekend, Doyle has one sniff of a goal, and that's with them trying to change their way of playing. It really tells us a story!

It must take a whole day to drive it...but I’d still drop him off free of charge as he’s fecking woeful.

Recalled the highest goal scorer in the world or whatever, Swindon won’t pay enough for said player (which would guarantee them going up), seems straight forward enough.

Salford are going for it. Tom Elliot won’t score a load of goals but he’s a pain in the arse to play against.

Inih Effiong went from Ross County to Dover Athletic. Possibly further?
Wish he'd go back!

O'Connor confirmed to Salford. Two excellent and eye-catching transfers for them from us this week - certainly better than Nathan Arnold and Matt Green who they've had off us previously.

O'Connor has been excellent for us, even in L1. Just sits there, breaks up play and pings balls around. Not the most mobile but positionally top notch so it's not really an issue (providing he's not in a flat 4-4-2).
