We have signed Ross Doohan from Celtic on a two year contract, with an option of a third year. Pleased with that as I thought he looked promising when on loan last season.

Hopefully the Patrick rumour is true.

It is I think.

Got told this afternoon that it’s not done yet but there’s a verbal agreement so won’t be involved in our friendly tonight. Didn’t know whether to believe at first, but low and behold, he’s out of tonight’s squad.

Described as an attacking midfielder but seen on his Wiki he doesn’t get many goals, what sort of player should we expect?
That should be a good signing as long as he has regained his confidence. First 8/10 games last season, he had more assists than anyone in the division, then dopey Derek got to work on him and the tactics just about wrecked him. Hope he does well for you. Sure he will as he has talent.

Stockport County.
It's an outstanding signing for Hartlepool.

The only drawback is the pressure on Hartley. He surely has to deliver now.

Good luck to Patrick as well, don’t get me wrong he was useless for us to the point I thought we’d done what Macclesfield did that time and allowed a fan to pay money to play. But he always gave 100% and I’d never abuse or boo anyone who does that, he did make an idiotic comment on Twitter but he’d already had a lot of stick by then. He’s obviously improved since we had him. He was terrible last game of the season against us with the crowed on his back, I’m not sure he’s the strongest mentally but if Tranmere fans back him I imagine he’ll do well. Must be refreshing for their fans their team looked like dads army last season and had as much pace as it, their performance at VP against 10 men was one of the worst I’ve seen in a long time and it was mainly because of how slow they were. Looks like they’re rectifying that this season with the ins and outs.

So we’ll obviously need to replace Patrick.

*Checks Bradford’s released list*

You could have gone for Cooke but he’s not a Patrick type tbf, only winger that left us was Vernam to league 1. And now Scunthorpe have gone down I think the chain will be broken as we need to find somewhere else to get player now.

Surely there’s pressure on any manager at this level in this day and age? However, not sure I see Stocky’s point that there’s now more pressure on Hartley because he’s signed a player released by Bradford though?

Maybe a way of trolling/deflecting because of the pressure on them to succeed due to their budget etc?

County played Bolton the other day.

And if DC is going to play a high defensive line that was on show, this season. They may find themselves in big trouble.
They was a guy (just signed) Horsfall i think, Who looked really uncomfortable playing that way
And he was really slow, Should have signed Timi.

I don't think the Patrick to Rovers is a done deal as yet, so will park that until confirmation one way or another. We desperately need some pace in the team though, at present think our full-backs are the fastest players in a Rovers shirt.

You make a fair point about last season's team and Mark Palios in a fan's forum indicated there would be a more attacking bent to our play this season. The new recruits have been a mix of experienced pros and promising youngsters, No stellar signings like Northampton, Stockport or even yourselves, so it will be interesting to see how it all fits together. While I'm not that confident about our promotion prospects, I am looking forward to watching Rovers again.

I think we are putting a decent squad together, much better balanced than last season. We have not brought in many 'name' players, but very often those signings don't work out at this level. Our recent experience with Callum McManaman and David Nugent demonstrates that.

The teams that are successful at this level very often have the right blend of youth and experience and decent squad depth, rather than stellar names past their prime. I think that was the case last season for Exeter, Vale and even Forest Green.

I broadly agree with you, though wouldn’t say no to the introduction of quality as some of our potential promotion rivals have brought in. There were some encouraging signs from the Fleetwood friendly highlights. If we can add another central defender and an attacking player with pace then I’d be hopeful of improving on last season.

Sounds like you are taking a similar route to us. 5/6 from last years squad (if Reed/McKirdy aren’t sold), padded out with 2/3 with some limited experience in league football and the rest young, hopeful punts.

Plenty of time for, maybe, a blow your socks off signing but I’m not counting on it. Hopeful Bamba will join as player/coach.

I saw an article yesterday where Paul Simpson was talking about being outmuscled for players and name dropped us, is there some sort of muscle fetish in Cumbria?

Someone posted it on Twitter(below) it was actually financial muscle mentioned not outmuscled, but they do enjoy that terminology up there!

What is Simpson whinging about here? Bradford are a miles bigger club than Carlisle. Even if they offered the same terms, they'd choose Bradford.
