Reportedly set to sign Danny Hylton - has been linked many times most recently January

I feel like this transfer has been linked for about the last 3 transfer windows!

I will be sad to see him go. I think he got written off at the beginning of last season as never going to score or be impactful for us again in the Championship but to be fair to him despite being a bit part player, he made some good contributions - 4 goals in not that many starts, even played midfield in a injury crisis because hes got a good footballing brain.

Hes not really got the legs for it any longer (not like he was ever quick tbf) but he is still a very clever player, loves a nutmeg and is always great value entertainment wise. Always something going on around him. Will miss him if he does go as hes been such a talismanic sort of player for us, especially his first few seasons here.

I am assuming Mansfield fans don't know much about him as he hasn't played for them. Great of us to bring in a 17 year old keeper to compete with our 17 year old keeper.

He divides opinion. Personally, I like him and I think we might end up regretting letting him go. He's got plenty of potential, he's athletic and has a decent cross on him. Plenty of work to do and he's definitely got a mistake in him but he's had some good games and could still come good.

I thought he would be our bench keeper this season, but Clough apparently wants him to go out on loan in Conference this year to give him some more experience. Scunthorpe would be a good place to go as he would get a lot of practice this season in shot stopping.

Not sure of your style but he loves the ball at his feet taking players on in and around the penalty area, thats when he was best for us. He will...erm shall we say"win" a few penalties that way too. He is not a number 9 who wants the ball up to his chest/head, he wants it to feet in the pockets of space he finds in and around the area to take players on or draw players to him so he can pick a pass.

Depending on how you play he will either be great, or totally ineffectual i think. If you are expecting a big man to occupy centre halves and win long balls, you'll probably be disappointed.

I notice he got into double figures last season for Walsall, so maybe his finishing has improved a lot.

As for Hoola Hoop, I rated him during his loan spell with us and was hoping we would sign for us last season. Surprised to hear he was so poor for you.

I fully expected more of Hiwula but then the fitness levels were none existent, injuries galore and a manager who created a toxic atmosphere didn’t help. A full pre season might make a difference. Miller has already given the best signing on statement in years, ‘at times I can be a bit naff but I’ll run my socks off for 90 mins.’ Last season our strike force was totally naff and couldn’t walk for 90mins so I’ll take that, if he can put pressure on the back line it’s going to allow us to play higher up the pitch.

As a Walsall fan, I think that your assessment of Miller is completely fair and accurate, as he resembled that same striker that you summarised with us last season. He is such a diligent and hard working striker that will chase lost causes, run his absolute tail off and always gives centre backs a restless afternoon/night.

However, his hold up play is practically non-existent at times and nothing seemed to ever stick to him. As Kauto alluded to above, this is due to his poor control and lack of first touch.

He did incredibly well to score 12 goals for us last season in a very poor team that created very little; he looked like a disillusioned figure at times, as he was very isolated for long periods of the season, with not much service or support. He was at his best spell for Walsall when he had Wilkinson playing alongside him.

Despite an impressive goal return, his finishing was woeful at times and he missed a few clangers and sitters throughout the season (with one of those ironically being against Bradford at home). The positive aspect about Miller is his positioning and he gets into really good goal scoring opportunities.

With all that being said, I will go out on a limb and say that he will get 20 goals next season if given the right service and there is enough creativity in the Rovers' team.

As we haven't signed anyone yet I've been looking around at what others have done so far. I'll be honest the majority of signings made I know little about so I'm perhaps not the best judge of character here. I guess what I have to go on is whether I believe a certain player would have been a good signing for us. So far Dan Sweeney at Stevenage is one that I reckon could have been a goer if we weren't faffing about with managers. Although I find it odd he is going from possession based footballing side FGR to 'whack it up the pitch as hard as possible' Steve Evans. If the Danny Hylton rumour is true then it looks like Northampton are doing good business. Haynes is a good players also and these are the type of signings I'd like us to be looking at. Nothing else really stands out so far, so don't think we are too far behind.

I wonder if we'll be doing our business late again, when we were able to bring in Jonny Williams, Ben Gladwin and Louis Reed as well as a number of excellent loan players (which screwed us over in January as they were all recalled to go and play in a higher division) which was a huge surprise bearing in mind we all thought we would struggle last season.

Looks like Zanzala is having a medical with us today, don't know what to think about that!! there is a good player in there somewhere but to have your contract cancelled by both crewe and barrow and exeter not taking up the option shows there is a major attitude problem and i don;t think we want that sort of problem at our club.
