As with all signings its really a case of wait and see. He played 47 times for Rovers and so their fans have seen enough of him to be able to judge how he was for them. I'm hopeful our coaching staff have seen something that means he'll be able to work within the way we want to play.

Rovers fans, what are his strengths and weaknesses? Does he have any pace, is he good in the air etc? Lindsey described him as a left sided ball playing centre back, is that accurate or just manager speak?
Tbf, Gassy. You said the same about Garner, the same about Kyle Bennett and now Harries.

You should say Garner was useless for you
Bennett was useless for you
Harries was useless for you

You lot thought signing Pork Pie Pitman last season was a coup!
A fair point but they were all useless for us. I always maintained that Bennett was a L2 player and I was right on that. Where is he now btw? How did he do at Grimsby? I don’t think I’ve been proven wrong.

Garner was awful and I stick by that. He did well last year tbf.

We also said Broadbent & Menayese were good and we were right there too. Pitman wasn’t exactly a failure tbf, saved us many times last season.

Harries has been poor under every manager. His passing is solid tbf for L2, so your coach isn’t wrong. He has a decent solid tackle in him but his marking, heading and positional play is awful. One of those players where every time he makes a mistake it’s a guaranteed goal

Bennett was a total waster and has proved us right by dropping down the leagues

Stockport County.
Honestly, I think we're just pretty well run these days rather than being bankrolled like some other clubs.

Our chief Owner (Nigel Travis) was (or is, I'm not sure) CEO of various US food companies, Dunkin' Donuts etc. He's not crazy rich but a very stable, sensible, smart business individual with a few mil. tucked away.

Kent Teague, east London's favourite charismatic Texan has been backing us for a few years along with Travis he's was a Microsoft big shot years ago and has a wealth fund, again, rich but I don't think it's anything crazy. They'll both be running at a loss each year but despite being business men they are both genuinely fond of the club.

Then more recently we secured some outside investment to the tune of £8.7m from a collection of individuals who I guess want to buy into the vision and hope we get up the leagues.

The Moncur signing looks fantastic and seems to be a statement of that intent.
Thanks for the summary.

Some of the names The Terminator was reeling off seemed big, big wages to me. Moses Odubajo would be an insane signing. Last I saw he was doing very well in the Championship and it wasn't that long ago.

Moncur 3 year deal, fee involved, I imagine very high wages. You'll be in the top 5 budget I imagine with Bradford, Salford, Mansfield etc.

I wonder if Swindon will be up for signing Westbrooke as well. SOGOF - sign one get one free ?

We did also sell Hector Kyprianou last week for £300k to Peterborough - Moncur is his replacement and no doubt some of that money would’ve been used to bring Moncur in.

Last season our board also sourced additional investors into the club.

Like I said further up, I hope not. Seems his attitude has gone down the shitter since we had him it seems. I reckon we've recruited well up until now, but I'm not hugely excited by Khan/Bogle.

Was Bogle's attitude any better at Grimsby? I saw him play for Grimsby about five times and every time I thought his attitude looked poor, just constantly in a huff and petulantly throwing his arms around... to an outsider, it just looks like he had a bit of a purple patch for three months or so after promotion.

His injury essentially cost Chesterfield promotion and they’ve got plenty of cash so you’d need some serious money to get him

He was fine for us, no issues. It’s the age old mistake but leaving us in the January was career suicide, jumped way too quickly into a championship relegation battle and didn’t stand a chance. He got 6 in 24 games for Wigan and Cardiff which was relatively respectable but I feel here he needed (and got) love, which got the best out of him.

I think something about his demeanour does look a bit grumpy but his application of effort on the pitch was great for 95% of his time with us. Hurst dropped him a few times but he bounced back fine every time. Purple patch for three months after promotion is a bit harsh too, he was bagging for fun for two seasons at Solihull before joining us and then hit about 17/18 I think it was in his first season with us (including a brace in the playoff final and a huge equaliser in the semi).

Yep, saw them saying on the other forum that they'd already turned down 600k for him this summer. If that's true won't be signing for anyone in L2. (Except maybe Stockport, Northampton, Mansfield, Bradford or Barrow).

Some signing Moncur and as above usually ripped us apart for Colchester. 3 year deal as well, that said seems a massive step back to say he’s into his prime years when he’s spent most his time in league 1 at least.

Signed on a 3 year deal last summer for 250k and they aren't short of a bob or two themselves. Absolutely no chance anyone is getting him for 300k.

Good to know Charltons late interest didn’t mess up our chances of signing Moncur!

Obviously have some affection for him as he scored some extremely important goals for us but this is a stand out signing.

If his mind is right he will be unbelievable in League 2, technically he’s superb, an incisive passer, decent from set pieces of which he scored a few for us and entertaining to watch on the ball. Holds it too much sometimes and wouldn’t want him constrained by too much defensive responsibility though, let him float with some willing workers around him and he will do damage at this level with his creativity and eye for a goal.

Only thing with him is the attitude, could see him thinking he’s a bit above it and although he wasn’t a problem here he is a slightly odd character I think. Certainly his moves further north he’s had some issues I think. But he will be close to home with you which is where he’s played his best.
