Stockport fans looks like you've signed LWB Chris Hussey from us. Defensively he's still solid but going forward he just doesn't have the pace any more. Can still hit a good free kick or corner though so you have some players who can attack set pieces he can do a job in that sense.
Shame hes gone but we've overloaded on LWB now and fans had been berating him (harshly).

Bit of an odd quirk that his only goal was against Stockport 36 hours before his move!

We need a LCB in a three more than a LWB so if he's better defensively than going forward I can see him playing wide left of a three. Mark Kitching has the qualties on paper but never brings it together and has too many fuck ups and Ryan Johnson isn't good enough on the ball when we need to build the play.

That could be the way to go with him for the rest of his career. We did try it once with him there against Newport last season but it was a bit of a disaster as Finn Azaz among others just took the piss. With that said he had come back from injury in that game and was clearly not fit. Good solid pro though.

Not surprised with Johnson, think his ceiling is good conference defender. His reading of the game or ability on the ball as you say isn't quite up to the level.

It was obvious towards the end of the season that Johnson wasn't going to cut it in the league, never mind for a club running its mouth off about double promotions. Big failing is not going out and signing a quality LCB.

Hussy basically sounds a decent upgrade on Johnson to play that role. We're so poor in that area as far as a 'desperation' signing goes, I'm relatively happy with it.

If he is more defensive/negative, I'd say that is also a suggestion that the club and staff have tempered their expectations after we all got a bit too giddy in the summer too. We really thought we were going to be able to play on the front foot against league 2 sides and so far everyone apart from Colchester have looked faster and stronger.

Hussey isn't as powerful or aerially strong as Johnson, his main attribute though is his dead ball delivery, Horsfall for instance will love him on corners!

League Two is quite strong these days and fairly even, last year you had obviously Stockport but even Oldham gave some of the top sides a tough game, they beat us away and although we won the return it was a real slog.

Salford to be fair have shown it takes more than just big wages/signings so may need some patience and not be as quick on the trigger as they are for instance.

Agreed.

I'm concerned we haven't got a forward especially with letting Quigley go and I don't see us scoring many but on the whole, we need to be patient. We need to build a standing at this level and a measure of what is required at the level going forward. The first port of call for me is 50 points as soon as we can.

Agree. His bookings for dissent really pissed me off. He shot often when players were better positioned for an easy pass. His hair was a mess and his socks were too low.

But with the ball he was electric at times which is what you pay money to see. And he scored goals.
Agreed, I will miss seeing him out there winding everybody up, having his tantrums but he had that ability to do something special. Good luck to him.

We have just got a striker in. Daniel Okwute who played for Kerry FC u19's so he's, well, not particularly proven.

But he trialled with the first team so presume he'll be in the first team picture. Supposedly "highly rated".

Weird to see Plymouth let Jephcott leave? Seemed to be in good form last season unless it was a purple patch.

We were in for Alex Gilbey and it was pretty close, but in the end he wanted to stay down south.

What are Swindon's thought on McKirdy? I think all sides like a player who's a bit of a wind-up on the pitch, but he seems to be a wind-up, who steps over the mark and actually just comes across generally as an absolute prick you wouldn't really want your Club to sign?
He was a prick but he was our prick and now hes somebody elses prick

Very well summed up. He reminded me of when Alan Smith was at Leeds. A hero for them but a total arsehole for the fans of the other 91 clubs.
I’m sure his subsequent transfer to Man Utd means that you could adjust that number to all 92 clubs.

Still plenty of free agents up for grabs. Suprised no one has snapped up Callum Macdonald and Callum McManaman who were on our books last season. Both more than capable of doing a job at this level.
I am surprised Macdonald hasn’t found a club. There was a post on one of the Rovers sites by someone itk, who claimed that on their agent’s advice, players weren’t accepting lower wages to get a club at the end of the window. Instead they’d preserve their market value by not joining a club until desperation on the part of the recruiting side would force them to meet the players demand. I’m not totally convinced of it myself.

Sounds like we pushed the boat out a bit too (for us) as your gaffer only wanted him out on loan but seems we were persistent and kept coming back in.
Saw 125k mentioned as the fee which under our old regime would never have happened.
Very happy to have him here.

Grimsby come into a lot of money? £125k is a fair amount of dosh at this level. I don’t know enough about Alex Hunt to comment on whether it’s good value.

Technically a good player, my only concern was his size but he looked to have bulked up over the summer.

Crawley have signed Caleb Chukwuemeka. Intial season loan with an obligation to buy.

What's he like Northampton fans? I seem to recall he was good for you before you sold him to Villa.

Our forward line Saturday..

Nadersan, Nichols, Fellows, Bremang, Telford and Chukwuemeka.

The last four are Betsy signings. Nadersan was called by Betsy while on holiday to sign and Nichols has been captain this season. Someone there has been told a porky.

Casey
Was wondering how we would fit them in but we played Tom Fellows as a wing back yesterday.

I'm sure that will please WBA. Their young striker playing in defence.

I recall that Maddox had a decent loan spell at Cheltenham the year before we got him on loan and were quite excited. However he only played a couple of Pizza Cup games with us and was sent back early.

Great news that. As good as any signing we've made over the last window or two for me.

Grimsby come into a lot of money? £125k is a fair amount of dosh at this level. I don’t know enough about Alex Hunt to comment on whether it’s good value.
Record season ticket sales, promoted back earlier than expected, sensible wage budget, new owners, paid off our old chairman and the sale of McAtee all contributing factors. The aim is for us to be ran sustainably but with the amount of work that's been done and needs doing off the pitch we won't be seeing that happen for a while yet. We've been told our squad will be seeing improvements every window from here on out and that's happened so far. I'd imagine we've got a few of these kind of signings in us for the right player of the forthcoming windows.

Hunt is talented for sure. Can thread a pass and move the ball at a speed that few can at this level. Needs game time and has plenty to learn but he's a very promising signing.

Perennial crock Jordan Lydon linked with Barrow. If he can get over injury problems is a superb lower league midfielder.

While Nathan Broome recovers from injury, Will Jääskeläinen (yes, I did have to C+P) has signed a short term deal as backup to Nik Tzanev.
If he gets his confidence back and plays behind centre backs who can head the ball away, Will could still be a decent keeper. Christ, he was bad for the last 18 months or so at Crewe though.
