It looks like we are signing 22 year old Sidy Sanokho on a short term deal after he impressed in pre-season trials. Looks like a DM/Box to Box midfielder with an eye for a pass.

Love these kind of signings!

You love DM/Box to Box midfielders with an eye for a pass? Fair enough I suppose.

I prefer AM's and full backs myself.

Blimey, when did you last see him play?

A while ago granted. He’s as you say well past his best but it’s probably not the worst short term move for the experience he has so long as the team bringing him in are not pinning their hopes on him which doesn’t seem to be the case at Cambridge.

Ah that's much better!

Joking aside, yeah I don't expect miracles from a 37 y.o. But I'm having a hard time understanding the logic behind this loan, with all of 5 strikers now vying for two spots. I suspect the reason is Knibbs - either he'll be out for a longer time than anticipated or possibly that Calderwood is having second thoughts on the lad's ability to improve the side.

He has been out pretty much since he's arrived so I don't think Calderwood has had enough time to judge whether he's surplus or not. He's also only started training on grass for the first time since his injury today, so that doesn't suggest he'll be out any longer than expected.

Vale fans - we’ve signed Connell Rawlinson. Do a job in NL?

I think that’s about the right level for him to play at. Think Aspin never really helped in his case sticking at right back most the time which left him exposed. At centre back I think he could do a job. Will say he clearly showed a good attitude in pre-season as Askey did say he was happy to carry him in the squad this season after transfer listing him a couple of months. Contrast that with Whitfield virtually being exiled.

Hmm, I'm not liking the replies from the Swindon fans.

Can you say something nice about him? Dunno, something about his tats or haircut perhaps?

He’s an absolute hunk

Think in reality it's pretty meh, no? The guy has been coasting off god only knows what for years. He's never had that good a scoring record and I doubt a player like him brings a lot else to the table in terms of play making, being a big body, winning headers etc.

Amazing how many strikers find work at this level off the back of a 5-8 goals a season record year after year.

He'll do alright for you at this level, got ability and scored goals for us in the Championship playing wide right. Put him up front every week I'd fancy him to get at least 12 goals.

Do you have a lot of twitter followers but haven't done much of note in football for a year or so? Does mention of your name prompt comments of 'I was wondering what happened to him' or fond recollections from fans who saw you tear apart Bristol Rovers five seasons ago? Then Cambridge United is the place for you*!

*pending four month trial period.

How come?
Good pedigree hasn't he ?
5 in 21 for Bury and was at Rovrum in Championship

He kind of feels a little bit like one of those signings that will just ‘fit in’ somewhere, his goals to games started ratio is decent in fairness. But you have to ask why Peterborough or Doncaster didn’t sign him after trials this summer and also why he’s only been loaned out consistently throughout his career. If you are that good, someone with a bit of money puts a bid in.

However, if he can chip in with 10, we should get 10 goals from both of our other strikers. So that would be a decent return.

Also, it’s been mentioned that we are signing 2 strikers (the other a fee for Rory Gaffney) who has worked with DC before. So Lavery MAY just give us options as I do believe he plays out wide if needed and we only really have 1 winger at the club with DC playing 5-3-2 this season. Our squad is built around a solid spine, I expect us to win quite a few games by the odd goal, or like Saturday 1-0.

A bit suprised that Salford would sell Gaffney................But they'll just replace him with a bigger name with the freed up space.

Gaffney was decent for Salford last season, he'll do well again at this level.

Walsall adding some much needed fire power.

Would tie in with me hearing they've put in a loan bid for Moult.

Lavery is good for league 2. Works his arse off and he's a decent finisher he maybe doesnt get in the right places all the time though. Could get up to 15 goals if he plays and stays fit.

Gaffney would be a solid signing, capable of getting goals at this level I would have thought. We need 1 more striker and then I can see us doing okay this season. The spine of the side is very solid for a league 2 team on our budget.

The main thing though is that we have an excellent manager who is proven at league 2 level and secondly we have a fan base on side and club transformed after Bonser decided to finally sell up.

No we're serious :shifty:

Fair play then, that's quite a signal of intent, I know he's been out the game for a bit so might fancy relaunching his career and get fit somewhere I suppose? Still has a house in the north west as well.

Should definitely keep hellogregory quiet for a bit, unless he's totally past it.

Might stick a bit on you going up after this.

We've contacted Mario Balotelli's agents with a contract offer.

We tried that a couple of years ago under Bruno IIRC! Mourinho told him to come Vale and learn what football means or something (in terms of mellowing him I think).

Signed for Nice instead... Nice V Burslem must have a been a tricky choice.

A front 3 of Hope, Thomas and Balotelli would tear this division to shreds.

Not as exciting as Carlisle's news, but we've signed goalkeeper Joe Wollacott on a season long loan from Bristol City. Likely to go straight in as no. 1 if he's any good, our first choice is usually a loanee.
