Michael Harriman to score our winner in a 2-1 victory  Rumour has it we're trying to sign him on a permanent deal but if Luton couldn't afford him i can't see how we can. :eyes:

Not quite a case of Luton not being able to afford him. As I understood it, we were all set to sign him, and he had agreed to come - he spent a lot of time over the summer telling the world that he was on the way to Luton. Then thanks to a change in the regime at QPR (can't remember if it was a new manager or the like) they changed the rules, offered him a new improved contract purely and simply so that we would have to go to a tribunal and probably pay a lot more. At that point John Still said, stuff that, and brought in a right back from the Scottish Prem who was initially underwhelming, then injured. We could have still got Harriman on a long term loan but Still was only interested in a permanent signing. All very well having high principles, but in the long run, we lost out badly, imo.
I am sure that Harriman will get a warm welcome back on Sat, and that he won't celebrate when he scores.

Yeah, apparently we've got the worst record in the entire football league on Boxing Day but meh.

I'm not scared of Lu'un as such, but hey, even a team of exorbitantly-paid internationals like Chelski can turn it on when they get rid of their manager so you'd expect the Lu'un players to be busting a gut to impress the many potential new gaffers that will be in the stands.

1-1.

Well that was awful, Scott Cuthbert is absolutely useless, the fact he is captain is laughable. Complete overhaul of the centr of defence is required in my opinion.

Speaking of laughable, Jake Howells man of the match and pretty much the only player to be clapped up of the pitch?! Say whatever you want about players lacking fight he is the only one who by his own admission asked to leave the club! Shouldn't even be at the club let alone in the side.

We scored a penalty winner after 102 minutes at home to Exeter last season mate

.

What's happening with Mackail-Smith? He had a nearly 1 in 2 record for Peterborough back in the day, still only 31 - is he crocked or is it more just that he doesn't fit well into your team?

He seems to think the purpose of football is to fall over your own feet a lot.

The odd flashes of the player he used to be but on the whole I think he's done as a player.

My goodness - that was an absolutely embarrassing performance. The players need a long hard look at themselves.

Was it a fair scoreline or were we lucky? I listened to the game and it sounded like our keeper didn't have much to do,you should have crossed into the box as he's like a vampire he hates crosses and rarely comes off his line.

On the subject of added time, we had an extra 6 mins added at the end of the first half, which were more or less justified. At the end of the 90, the ref decided to give another 6 mins, which was harsh on the Daggers considering we were leading 3-0 :ffs:

As for Luton, today's defeat wasn't totally unexpected as Wycombe are a decent side and hard to break down, but my mate was at the match and he told me the performance was very poor, just like both Kenny and TFCH have already said. Very worrying considering the players Luton have got. To make matters worse, Pompey are next and they'll be looking to bounce back from today's defeat.

Still, this division is very competive, with the exception of the 2/3 sides at the bottom, and I'm expecting Luton to climb up the table as soon as a new manager comes in. Something like 3 wins out of 4 games will see you lot just outside the playoffs.

I'd say it was deserved.

It was an archetypal away performance, you were organised, pressed us and broke well through Harriman. First half there was little quality from either side though. Up until the first goal it was fairly even, we had a few spells of putting some decent passing moves together but any end product was lacking hence your keeper having a quiet afternoon.

Cuthbert then gifted you a goal and Thompson put in the only decent cross of the game by either side for Hayes to nod in and that was it.

Poor game overall really but you deserved to win it by virtue of organisation If nothing else.

Embarrassingly spineless performance from us yet again. I had so little enthusiasm to go today, had to be dragged along basically as I've just had enough of it this year.

David James sat in the director's box just in front of me, really not sure about that appointment but hopefully he can at least reinstall some pride and a reason to bother going to watch games. He's got a huge job on though, the squad is bloated full of average players, horrifically balanced, zero pace and evidently a lot of players with horrible mentalities. Not sure how much of an overhaul we can realistically have even next summer, never mind January, considering most of the squad are on 2 or 3 year contracts.

0-0 with both teams looking as average as the other, away side get a goal and then we crumble and concede a couple more.

Painfully repetitive.

Well the combination of bookies odds tumbling, rumour mill exploding and then him being sat in the director's box watching the game would tend to suggest that yes he is.

I wanted someone who hasnt been on the usual manager merry go round to bring a fresh approach but not sure about David James to be honest. Without wishing to be rude to the guy he always struck me as a bit odd, can see the group of players we have now taking the piss to be honest.

If it is going to be him then happy to be proved wrong and am keen he gets time but really not sure about it.

I agree, the guy is odd. He talks nonsense when on BT Sport. I wasn't sure on Derry but as soon as he opened his mouth to talk to the media, I felt we had someone who talks sense and knows what to do to get the best out of players. Add that to a good squad under performing and we have a good combination.

Luton could do with that type of character but I'm not sure about David James at all.

Is it right of me to say that goalkeepers don't tend to make good managers? As its a specialist position and don't get too involved with the outfield tactics? That said, David James has played at the World Cup and European Championship, whilst John Still played about 15 matches in his whole life.

There isn't a correlation between how good a manager is and if he played the game at a high level before, so that's means nothing.

Indeed, look at Wenger and Mourinho. Not that coaching badges mean you're a great coach all of a sudden, but I believe James had at least taken the time to study for his, and he's actually a Luton fan which surely has to count for at least goodwill?

Sure he'll have to do a lot more than coast on goodwill though. My biggest concern would be the Tony Adams syndrome, where you get a manager who's never played football at this level (I guess he played for Bournemouth for 2 minutes in L1) and doesn't understand that it has a different mentality and requirements than the top flight.

That said I guess James has coached at the club briefly before.

Anyway if it is him, let's hope he's more Jimmy Floyd than Tony Adams for your sake.
