That’s a move that just screams disaster.

The thing is they don’t get to show they are “good enough” as they don’t get in the interview room in the first place is the issue the rule tries to solve.

The Rooney rule isn't the answer imo.

What needs to happen is the entire recruitment/application/interview process for coaching jobs needs to be made transparent so that every serious candidate gets a fair chance, whatever their background, as well as proper feedback if they don't get the job.

That would mean that everyone has a equal opportunity to impress rather then it being a case of knowing the right people. If more people think they've got a fair chance of landing a job, then more people from BAME backgrounds will start taking their badges and applying for jobs, rather then thinking there's no point.

The other argument is that it is encouraging racism. A bit like 'positive discrimination' can. You only got the job because you are black, not because you are better than other candidates. I wouldn't want to be employed because my club decided to be 'diverse' and roll out a coloured person rather than pick the best candidate.

I don't know the answer, no one does but at least in our short existance we have had a black manager so can be comfortably smug.

I’m sorry, but i just can’t believe any owner would base his appointment on a racial basis. There are huge numbers of white ex players wanting a crack at management that don’t get a sniff.

Are people really advocating a quota system?

We already have a female head of academy and a BAME Chief Operating officer. So doubt we'd be prejudiced when appointing a manager.

Surely most owners would jump at the chance to get the good PR that appointing a BAME manager atm would bring more then anything?

The last couple of weeks have shown just how many racists in this country are hiding in plain sight. Out of the 92 chairman in the FL odds are there's at least one of them who may do exactly that.

It’s shown the sheer amount of people ignorant on the matter, I know that.

Rumour suggests Ian Evatt is on his way to Bolton.

Bolton have definitely talked to his agent, but I think they've baulked at the cost of compensation. It's definitely more than the £120k quoted in the Bolton News - probably double that. Not sure how much he would want to work with a director of football doing the recruitment either.

Bolton's financial situation will become clearer when they have made an appointment, but I reckon they are on the bones of their arse.

I hope so mate, but got a bit worried about the hints from our supposed ITKs on our forum this afternoon, although sometimes you don't know whether it is a wind up or not.

I can't help but feel it would be a real kick in the teeth if we lose him straight after promotion. But this is Barrow, you've got to take the rough with the smooth. I reckon he would've moved on if we had missed out on promotion, which would have been far, far worse.

Until I see certain posters confirming things, I don't believe it...

Yep, to me Evatt is the only manager I can see steering us well clear of a relegation battle. Can see him leaving after Christmas, but I don't think a big enough team would take a chance on him before then.

Wouldn't be a great move for Evatt, in my opinion. If he's looking to take that next step then he'd be better served keeping some consistency and staying with Barrow in L2.

Trying to take that next step at a Club like Bolton, at least in their current state, would be a disaster.

Most people cite the Cowleys as an example of what he should be aiming for. The truth is though, he was close to joining Fylde before Christmas but stayed for a pay rise, so who knows how he sees his own career progressing.

They obviously tried Lowe, and at one point he was the bookies clear favourite. Suspect we would have wanted a lot more than £120k for a manget who has got out of this division twice, and was on a three year contract.

Too much smoke to suggest there's no fire with this one IMO. If they pay the compensation, he's gone.

I’ll be surprised if he does well at Bolton.

Those sudden moves from a team doing above expectation to a club that will undoubtedly demand at the bare minimum automatic promotion is a decent recipe for disaster.

Or he's expecting Hornby to put his hand in his pocket for another pay rise... I hope.

He was interviewed on Monday apparently - I hope he gets it too!

I think Bolton have been sounding out the free agents first as any club as you might identify someone ideal without having to pay someone. It seems Evatt is still their priority though.

Michael Jolley interviewed for the Bolton job. Hope he gets it. Obviously, we have the best manager in the division now so I'm pleased with how things have turned out but the point remains that Jolley was sacked harshly for a bullshit reason while operating under difficult circumstances for a joke board.

Michael fucking Jolley eh?

Very angry man, but be good to see him back. Seemed to try and play decent football, at least until you signed Hanson anyway.

Let's see how long before he has another epic break down/rant. Bolton won't be an easier place to work I wouldn't have thought.

Only interviewed, Heckingbottom has also applied so I doubt he'll get it to be honest. Fair comment regarding Hanson, we did become quite a lot more reliant on hoofing when he came in. That's more of a reflection on Jolley than Hanson mind, Hamez has a decent touch and In reckon we'll see him kick on under Ollie. He wasn't really that angry either Jolley, it was just towards the end when the pressure that started getting to him.

Heckingbottom was a total shit show at Leeds and Hibs. Just look how much better both did after he left, with pretty much the same players. Take Doidge for example, with the Heck in charge he was shit, couldn't hit a barn door, as soon as he left he won SPL player of the month!

If I was in charge of Barrow, I’d find out if Keith Hill is interested, probably isn’t but on the off chance he is, I’d let Evatt go, get whatever compo I can for him, hire Hill.

You end up with a proven League 2 promotion winning manager whose been used to a small budget and gets his teams playing good football. Plus a bit of extra cash for squad strengthening.

The problem is, even if he doesn't go to Bolton which is up in the air as the compo is a sticking point, the circus is just going to repeat itself when the inevitable sack race starts a month into the season.

I'd be disappointed if he didn't have a season with us in L2, but it seems obvious that his head has been turned. However I can't thank him enough for what he's done so far. If we get the composition we are looking for, I'm starting to think it would be the best for all parties that he moved there.

Strangely enough if we are going to need a new manager I'd rather it be now where he has a transfer window to work with.

Totally agree with the point that now is a good time for us to get a new boss in. But we have to stick to the agreed fee - at least then every club coming in for him knows the price and knows we won't budge.

If he does go to Bolton I wouldn’t expect him to be there by the end of the season, better off where he is in my opinion and wait for a more stable job.
