First and second choice U's.

Third choice St Helens v Wigan, even on the telly.

Hartlepool used to have 3 different rugby teams including West Hartlepool who when in the premiership used to get 3000 odd on at the same time as we got 4-5000 odd playing at the exact same time one mile away from each other ...my point is ...it shouldn't affect footballs crowds at all

Ah, I am missing a few games to watch the rugby, I have an equal love of rugby, cricket and football. Though I would put Mansfield first, i had the chance to watch England vs Wales next week at Twickenham and it was a no brainer. We played Plymouth last season, and will probably play them again next season so I am pleased I took it up

Clearly I'm wrong ....
I used to play U 19 rugby (league) in the morning/midday and go straight on to Holker Street for the afternoon, so for me it's the match not the sport - although RU can be appalling below the best international level.

I was considering Grimsby v Tranmere as a double header option for the weekend until I realised that Saints v Wigan was on the telly (decent tickets a bit tight).

For a start all England games KO at 8pm anyway, so not likely to affect the casual fan who wants to see both.

I've been well and truly told about rugby haven't I ? .....I think I'll sneak back to the football threads where I'm admired and respected !

I don't think there is much crossover unfortunately, though a few mansfield folk I know are into it.

Not quite sure why there would be hostility to it though, unless you follow the crap version they play up north

I think it's things like ITV pretending it's a national event akin to the real world cup ....making out people will be putting flags out etc, whilst at the same time employing Jack Whitehall to represent the folk who know nowt about the rules , which I suspect is an awful lot of people

It's not as big as the football World Cup, no World Cup for any other sport is. Itv show it as like the football World Cup, it has to be on terrestrial tv, so its either them or the bbc. In short, at least there is a decent sport on most evenings as opposed to fucking emmerdale and the tripe.

Rugby is a great sport, Id encourage people to sit back and enjoy.

The problem with RU is too many stoppages, too much time with scrums. Last nights match finished later than a 90 minute football match would have.

Can't get away with a game where you spend half the time lying prone on top of each other, and the other half with your head upsides someone's arse. Where a penalty can be given for a tiny infringement 50 yards from the posts, where offside has nothing to do with being in advance of the defending team, and you celebrate someone being able to put a ball straight into touch. At least Rugby League doesn't have the interminable Scrums.
