Sometimes rock and roll needs a good kick up the arse. There were 3 bands that gave it this kick throughout the last 40 years. First came the Pistols , then The Jesus and Mary Chain, and finally Nirvana. Here's a sample of the JAMC, just in case you aren't familiar yet with Psychocandy's excellent mix of pop tunes drenched in glorious ear splitting feedback. One of the best ever debut albums.

The Toasters- hardcore ska guaranteed to cheer even the most miserable shoe gazer. Spectacular live and pretty good on wax. I picked this album because it's probably their most accessible.

By the Way is one of RHCP weakest I reckon. I can't listen to anything off it (except Venice Queen) without getting bored
