Saints will have had a more competitive warm-up than most given their European ties, and I fancy them to catch Newcastle on the hop. 2-1 Saints.

All Everton fans seem to hate us. I suppose irrational bitterness should be expected from fans of a club that's been irrelevant for about 30 years.

Mitrovic may not even play tomorrow, he's not fully match fit yet. We're expected to start with Saylor and Williamson at CB. If we do, Pelle will make 'em both his bitches and we'll lose.

Think S'ton will destroy the Geordies.
Hope Aarons starts. Newcastle need entertaining attacking players and he could fill that role. They were stale all over the park last year but traditionally they're a club for the flair players. Defending not such a strong point though!

Or not.

Surprised to see Jay Rod starting for us.

McClaren on the wind up with his training 11's. I was right about Pelle though

Think we're lucky to be drawing here, Newcastle have been the better side.

Yoshida, Targett, Fonte and Wanyama have all been terrible. Missing Schneiderlin and Alderweireld already.

If it wasn't clear that our two best players from last season needed to be replaced, then it is now.

Mane should have scored two in stoppage time. Still lucky to get the point.

We got much better as the second half went on and will probably be disappointed we didn't win it. Mane should be burying that chance he had in the final minute.

Wijnaldum looks like he will be a quality player for Newcastle.

Just curious, but is there a particular reason why McClaren chooses to sit in the directors section with his clipboard/laptop/phone set up before eventually joining his coaching staff in the technical area?

Based on that showing we could very well be looking at a 4, 5 maybe even 6 nil trouncing of the barcodes on saturday. Really can't understate the uphill task the geordies face just to keep the scoreline respectable.

Just curious, but is there a particular reason why McClaren chooses to sit in the directors section with his clipboard/laptop/phone set up before eventually joining his coaching staff in the technical area?

Here's his reasoning after doing the same thing after his first game in charge at Derby:

“I can get a better view up there, a better perspective, and that is important early on when a team is new to you,” he said.
“I am trying to get a picture of this instead of seeing legs and bodies on the touchline and shouting when they can’t hear me or they ignore me!
“I think it helps me in the end make better decisions for the team.”

Pearson used to do it a fair bit. Think Allardyce did too.

Obviously a tactic of the footballing gods.
