Underrated - David Trezeguet, big game player. Always overawed by Shevchenko.

It's a bit of a popular view these days but I still think Milner is vastly underrated and has been throughout his career.

Overrated? I don't see the fuss around Cavani, but then again I don't watch a lot of any European football.

alessandro costacurta. ask someone to name the great milan defenders and they'll probably answer maldini, baresi, tassoti. costacurta was a monster though, winning a shit load of silverware over a 20 year career including 5 european cups.

peter beardsley. incredible player for liverpool and newcastle. could beat his man without moving the ball.

Not somebody people think of when discussing the best strikers in Serie A, but hte guy won the golden boot twice, was in the team of the season several times and scored 191 in 385 games for Udinese. Overlooked because he didn't play for one of the big guns in Italy. Scored all sort of goals too. Except headers... He was a midget.

Del Piero, Totti and Giggs are overrated because of their one club longevity (I'm aware Del Piero had more than one club). They aren't close to being in the conversation for all time greats ability and performance wise, but they will remain so for the aformentioned reason.

Hargreaves should be in the conversation for best English midfielders and would be not for injuries.

Never understood these arguments. It's the same with Ledley King, people constantly banging on about how he was up there with or even better than the likes of Ferdinand. There is no point in claiming someone is or could have been amongst the best if they were physically unable to compete and prove it on a consistent basis due to constantly being on the treatment table. It's akin to claiming a team would have challenged for the title if they hadn't have had numerous injuries. Yeah, perhaps, but they did so it means jack shit.

Hagreaves has won titles and European cups in two different countries and was England PotY, he more than proved his worth. He was prevented from going even further and should be in the conversation but he's remebered more as a crock.

I agree with Giggs, Scholes not so much. Giggs should be praised for being such a fantastic athlete and being able to adjust to different positions throughout his career but he shouldn't even be considered as one of the best we've seen in this league imo.

This is similar to when people say he's as loyal a player as you're likely to see. I'd be loyal as well if I played for, at the time, the best Club side in the world and won if not competed for every trophy under the sun.
