Just seen the trailer for this. Looks a bit gimmicky and certainly not worth £350, but will the technology and game development improve to the point of VR becoming a major thing in gaming? Or will it just be a nice novelty like Kinect?

people won't buy it unless it has good third party support but developers and publishers won't want to commit to the project without a sizeable number of early adopters. i think it's a very cool gimmick that is probably doomed to fail in the long run (like 3d and motion controls), mainly because:

*the video game industry is reliant on the casual audience for its dominance in the entertainment sector and casual gamers don't want that level of immersion in the long run.

*people don't want to wear something that makes them look fucking stupid, even if it is in private (see google glass, 3d glasses)

*the software produced for it is likely to be shit for the first few years and very expensive

*consumer trust is at a low and new hardware is treated with more suspicion that ever.
