Massive win for us after a dry spell of four games without a win. Had most of our attack our so started with no out and out striker with AJ and Dodds up top. Streete and Foley were left out with Andih out for the season meaning Vale were without five big players from the early season.
First half was dreadful, Shrewsburys closest threat was a dive which went unpunished (ironic after last week) whilst AJ forced a great save and Dodds drilled wide on the half time whistle. Groans and a flat atmosphere but nine minutes into the second half it livened up when Daniels great run and move to pick out Dodds who fired home.
The Vale controlled the game and the keeper made two great stops from corners before a corner was floated in and Tootle palmed it away in the box giving us a penalty. After two misses in the last home game the relief when Occy fired home was there for all to see.
Good win considering we were down to the bare bones especially going forward. Shrewsbury were absolutely awful and made some of our away performances look like Brazil 1970! Based on that performance I'd be surprised if they stay up I don't think Alnwick made a save of note all game. Junior Brown was torn to pieces and he used to look alright at Fleetwood.
As for us Mcgivern did well considering the critical view recently, dealt with everything with ease, O'Connor finally looks to have caught up and was superb and dominated the midfield, thought Dodds and AJ do well with their movement and Daniel battled well.
Solid win and with Uche back next week we can hopefully build on this after the cup break.
