Most clubs have already began their pre-season training. Whilst the vast majority of clubs are still finalising deals, there’s a few squads that are nearing completion.

I didn’t wish for any projected starting XI’s to be lost within the the “Transfer rumours/Transfer completed” thread, but admins, if you wish to merge, sobeit.

Having completed our 8th signing today, it’s clear that we’ve come with a plan this off-season and have gone on to strategically execute said planning swiftly - which makes for a refreshing change. Whilst some of the signings may question our promotion credentials, we’re left with the confidence that we now have a no-nonsense manager (and CEO) who has a proven record in delivery the goods - with, seemingly, average players at his disposal.

Anyway, I digress.

4-2-3-1

GK: Richard O’Donnell

RB: Oscar Threlkeld
CB: Paudie O’Connor
CB: Niall Canavan
LB: Matty Foulds/Liam Ridehalgh

DCM: Yann Songo’o
DCM: Elliot Watt

RW: Alex Gilliead
CAM: Callum Cooke
LW: Abo Eisa

CF: Andy Cook

Subs:
Sam Hornby
Reece Staunton
Gareth Evans
Charles Vernam
Levi Sutton
Ollie Crankshaw
Lee Angol

We currently have too many midfielders on the books. Whether we see someone like Gareth Evans depart to make-way for x2 strikers, it’ll be interesting to see.

Another striker incoming is inevitable, and should it be someone in the mould of Marc McNulty, Jordy Hiwula or Connor McAleny, then I’ll fancy our chances next season.

Over to yous…..

Hard to say with Vale as could just as easily go with three centre-backs or just the two. DC seems the sort who picks a team to deal with any specific opponent rather than a set way of playing.

Based on a 4-2-3-1 (purely as I think 3-5-2 doesn't get the best out of Worrall) would imagine the team would look like this but could be completely wrong.

GK: Lucas Covolan

RB: James Gibbons
CB: Aaron Martin
CB: Nathan Smith
LB: Mal Benning

CM: Brad Walker
CM: Tom Pett

RW: David Worrall
CAM: Tom Conlon
LW: Devante Rodney

ST: James Wilson

I can't honestly say that I have much of a clue, especially as we have a new management team in place and nobody knows what their approach will be. However, given that we have signed three midfielders so far, no defenders or forwards, it is pointing towards a 3-6-1 formation...clearly I'm hoping there are some new arrivals before the season starts or we could be a team where it is difficult to get past our midfield wall.

I don't feel like we're expecting to sign any further starters. Think we could do with some but sounds as though we've about spent our budget.

We haven't changed much from last season though. We'll miss Farman, Zanzala, Patrick and Kayode but other than Farman none were necessarily guaranteed starters. Zanzala maybe since he'd come into a spell of form.

Bit of a guess really. I don't know which side Whelan plays on but might be ahead of McDonald in the pecking order despite McDonald being given the number 5 shirt. Similarly making assumptions that clough has been given the number 10 shirt because he is ahead of Abrahams in the managers consideration

Hard to know what our formation will be, and I think we're still a first choice midfielder short.

Maybe something like:

GK: Paul Farman

RCB: Matt Platt
CB: Mark Ellis
LCB: Joe Grayson

RWB: Remeao Hutton
LWB: Patrick Brough

RCM: Ollie Banks
CM: Tom Beadling
LCM: Josh Kay

CF: Offrande Zanzala
CF: Scott Quigley

Subs from: Josh Lillis, James Jones, Kgosi Ntlhe, Connor Brown, Mike Jones, Jason Taylor, Tom White, Jamie Devitt, Josh Gordon, Luke James, Dimitri Sea

Could just as well be a 4-3-3, with Brough or Kay further forwards. A lot of strength in depth, and six or seven of those subs could very well be regular starters.

Without knowing what formation we’re going to play, I’m going to hazard a guess at 4-2-3-1. At the moment it would be along the lines of:

GK: Sam Sargeant
RB: Craig Clay
CB: Omar Beckles
CB: Adam Thompson
LB: Dan Happe
DMC: Ouss Cissé
MC: Darren Pratley
AMC: Dan Kemp
RW: Paul Smythe
LW: Connor Wood
SC: Aaron Drinan

Subs: Rhys Byrne (GK), Jayden Sweeney, Shadrach Ogie, Hector Kyprianou, Matt Young, Anthony Papadopoulous, Ruel Sotiriou

Shite. Bench full of kids. Lots of work for KJ to do before the start of the season.

What I think will be the starting side and subs.

GK: Morris
RB: Francomb
CB: Tunnicliffe
CB: Craig
LB: Dalison
CM: Powell
CM: Hessenthaler
CM: Wright
LF: Matthews
CF: Nichols
RF: Nadesan

Subs: GK?, Nick Tsaroulla, Reece Grego-Cox, Jack Payne, Archie Davies, Dannie Bulman, Harry Ransom, Sam Ashford, Emmanuel Adebowale.

Not sure if Bulman is going to retire or not so I added Sam Ashford as an 8th sub. This is not my preferred side. More what I think Yems will pick.

I'm (sorta) happy to admit ignorance about what makes a good team and what doesn't but I have watched the game for years and I think that team will struggle...not relegation but not far away from it.

Of course this could change on Thursday when Messi's contract is up and he rocks up he with a few mates. Seriously, still time for a few to turn up and a few to leave.

Until we've recruited a 'main' striker and a winger, not going to offer suggestions. We have now got enough players to put out a team but some way off the eleven lining up v Walsall.

We’re still well short but this is what is go with as of now. 4-2-3-1:

GK: Scott Brown

RB: Josh Key
RCB: Sam Stubbs
LCB: Alex Hartridge
LB: Callum Rowe

CM: Archie Collins
CM: Nigel Atangana

RW: Joel Randall
CAM: Matt Jay
LW: Josh Coley

CF: Jevani Brown

Subs:
Young ‘keeper
Jake Caprice
Jack Sparkes
George Ray
Harry Kite
Ben Seymour
Nelson Iseguan

We need a first choice: Keeper, Left back, LCB, CM, CF plus a couple more. A big few weeks coming up

The most sensible formation for our contracted players is an old fashioned MW from the 1920s (before the change in the offside law):
GK Lynch
**
RFB O'Connell
LFB McNulty (or Dunne)
**
RW3/4 Keohane
C3/4 Morley
LW3/4 Done
**
RIF Rathbone (Capt)
LIF Grant
**
RW Newby
CF Beesley
LW Odoh

SUBS:
Wade (GK)
Dunne (or McNulty)
Dooley
Brierley (y)
Thomas (y)
Mialkowski (y)
ANO (y)

Sold to the highest bidder (probably): HUMPHRYS

agreed that it's hard to predict our team and formation at present, but here goes;-

GK Paul Farman

CB Matty Platt
CB Mark Ellis

RB Rameao Hutton/ James Jones
LB Patrick Brough

Def Mid Mike Jones/ Joe Grayson

M Beadling/ White/ Banks/
M new guy (Hard tackling midfielder)

Att M Josh Kay/ Devitt

F Quigley
F Zanzala

Cooper has said that we've probably signed all we are going to sign for now - but that we could see a couple of players coming in and a couple going out. I'd guess at Luke James as one to go out - purely because Cooper released him when he was at FGR and Josh Gordon plays a similar role.

Wilkinson flat-out refused to play through the middle whilst with us. Doesn’t want to play anywhere but right wing.

How has Jarvis done for you? He didn’t exactly set the world alight here in 19/20 (we loaned him out to Hemel and were not going to offer him a second year)

That seems odd, very much described as a striker when signing for us on our end through our own manager, himself and our media team. I know he played there a bunch for you and is probably better out there, but that is just what has been portrayed to us,

Well he is a striker; he’s just one that wants to play on the wing. He’s certainly not a winger - hasn’t put in a cross in his life. He gets the ball out wide and heads for goal. Very talented but selfish as f***.

Signings so far look to be steady - Norman, Clarke and Upson seem solid enough. Not so sure on the others. Keepers and defence sorted. Midfield needs strengthening, wouldn't be surprised to see Amond play deeper behind the strikers now his legs have gone. Could do with a proven striker - Watters on loan from Cardiff would do the job.

Didn't play a great deal but when he did he didn't look like a L2 striker, holds the ball up relatively well but that's about it.

Decent, but stop start after getting a pretty bad injury in January. Was back for the playoffs and did pretty well at CB, but was mainly used in midfield earlier in the season where he was solid but not the most mobile. Good on the ball though, decent passer and think he could be a useful player for us this season. might start off behind a couple of our new signings though.

I tend to agree with you Jared, however Jon Barden may lose his RB position to new signing Joe Kizzi.

I think so too. Although I posted my starting XI before the new signings were announced.

With the 3 new guys there’s actually a decent competition for places now.

The names in the Sutton squad seem familiar to those that were there the season before last. Is there a decent wealth of FL experience in there? I'd say we lacked that badly in the first half of last season and put us up against it straight from the off.

Craig Eastmond, Harry Beautyman and Rob Milsom have plenty of league experience among the 3 of them. There’s a few others in our squad who’ve played at league level before.
Our squads biggest strength may be its unity. We’ve not had many changes in personnel in the last few years, and the team sprit is very strong, as it’ll need to be in what could be a very tough season.

You need changes. Lots of changes. You’ll probably not notice it straight away because the standard of football is generally shite, but the extra quality in the opposition is there.
