We've all closely followed & admired the success of Jamie Vardy this year & its clear if given a chance earlier he would have been good enough to have played in the Premier League from circa 20 years old or younger.

This got me thinking who are the best lower league players that could potentially do a job at high levels.

One from my side to look out for - Lewis Cook. He won Football League Young Player of the Year and has played for Leeds for two full seasons now, starting as a 17 year old. I genuinely believe he's as good as Dele Alli with his attributes: Pace, Directness, Dribbling and his final ball has created loads of goals. Albeit he doesn't score enough himself.

Who else do we believe could cut the proverbial mustard?

Not sure you understand the concept of 'lower-league' players. Also, the story of Vardy is that he has progressed to become a good Premier League player; I'm pretty certain he wasn't ready for the Prem when he was 20.

I don't see how Lewis Cook could qualify when he's an England U19 international playing in the second tier with 75 senior games under his belt. This just looks like an excuse to talk about him in the Premier League forum.

Lewis Cook will mostly likely be in the Premier League next season. Perhaps with us as we've been after him for months, but perhaps more likely with Everton / West Ham / Sunderland / insert reportedly interested club here. Not exactly the best example of a proper lower league player.

One example who has drawn predicable Vardy comparisons is Horley Town's Ashley Nadesan, scored something like 60 goals this season and had trials at various league clubs. Think Millwall have offered him terms, and Norwich are seriously interested.

Danny Rowe at Fylde could easily make the step up to League 1/Championship I reckon.

He wasn't ready for the prem when he joined us, he wasn't ready for the championship. His first season wasn't up to much and plenty of fans would have been ok with him being bunked off. He said he didn't realise how big the step up would be and worked his arse off and turned it around in his second season. There will be a lot of players who don't do well enough because they don't realise the difference and either can't or don't do the work to make that step.
So yeah like you say he wouldn't have been ready when he was 20.

If we are talking about Vardy, then the qualification should be either they are at non league at the moment OR he was bought from a non league club

Good call, seen him play a couple of times and with the right application, could make it

My brother met a kid named Mustapha Bundu when working for the Craig Bellamy foundation in Sierra Leone. He came over to England last year aged 18, and a host of clubs wanted to sign him up to their academies, the most notorious club being Everton.

He was unable to be granted a work permit though, until he was 21, but he was able to join a non league club. Whilst working part time, he joined Hereford FC who with him in the squad have just won the Midlands league. This guy is getting rave reviews every week, and his ability is miles above that of any player at any non league club, and the only reason he isn't at a league team is because until he is 21 he cannot be granted a work permit.

Remember his name though, it will surely pop up again in a couple of years time when he can sign a contract with a league club.

I reckon Dion Charles could probably play in the FL as well.

He's my cousin, so I'm a bit biased, but he's already attracting a lot of attention.

You seen him play?

No but gonna check him out. My uncle is a scout at a Championship club (not leeds) so keen to scope some good players.
