Actually I'm a big Nirvana fan - I have everything they've ever released and not just the 3 studio albums. I've got the box sets, all the compilations and live sets, and quite a few bootlegs. Plus some 9 or 10 K.C. and Nirvana books to boot, so I guess that makes me a big fan

However, in this case, I'd go with OK Computer as it's the best Head album and one of the best albums ever, while Nevermind isn't Nirvana's best effort. The sleek production ruins it completely.

That is true ( I think bleach is their best album) but Nevermind still shits on anything in Radiohead's output. Massively overrated, pretentious prog lite. Still living on one alright gig at glasto '97( which I was at btw) ok computer is the ultimate "emperor's new clothes" album. Enough people buy into the " ya mate it's a work of genius, really deep ya" and suddenly it becomes a FACT.
I could quite contentedly live the rest of my years without hearing Thom Yorke sing or talk again( apart from the el presidente one he did with Powder, that's good)

Nah your little rant had nothing to do with it. I had a splitting headache last night (hmm, listening to loud music on headphones?) and I didn't want to get in an argument with you. Especially since I strongly disagree with all the points you raised in your post Sorry if I made it look like it was down to you or something.

1)As much as I like Bleach, it simply isn't their best album, and generally the ones who claim this only say so because they only listen to noise rock bands like The Melvins, Scratch Acid, Big Black etc, and I know for a fact you're not one of these guys. Nirvana themselves said it wasn't their best work as they were heavily influenced by tons of bands during the recording of Bleach. Don't tell anyone this but a handful of tracks were more or less 'borrowed' (I don't like to use the word stolen) from other bands.

2)Radiohead were always a progressive band, starting from their Pablo Honey debut lp. Still they took it further on The Bends, the album which caught the attention of critics everywhere and many hailed it as an instant classic, and here was the thing. Everyone was saying the Head couldn't possibly top it, but to everyone's amazement they did and by quite a big margin too. So, I'm afraid Glasto had nothing to do with the album's success.

3)'It's a work of genius mate, really deep you" doesn't really apply in this case, as we're not discussing a 60's/70's/80's album. But yeah, I'm with you all the way on this one. Far too many people fall for this ''it's a classic pal and you're an idiot if you don't get it'' thing. Imo, a lot of merely average records (see DSOTM, White Album, London Calling) get elevated to classic status only by peer pressure.
