R.I.P. He popped up in various shows from Lloyd and Croft, including a couple of appearances on Are You Being Served? Lucky to survive the storm of 1987 when he was hit on the head by a projectile being blown through his car window.

Yeah I remember this being a big thing back then, he was close to death's door by all accounts.

I remember him in the Porridge film as well and always liked him. RIP Gordon Kaye.

Come on, Allo Allo was brilliant

I liked Allo Allo with the original cast with Sam Kelly ('Heil Hitler' - 'Klop!') the original Herr Flik etc. Guy Siner as the gay German 'Lieutenant Gruber' too. It got a bit silly towards the end (if it was possible) but was one of their better shows, along with AYBS.

It was big news. He was a big name TV star back then. I forgot he was in Porridge too. Good memory.

In Germany we could see this brit-com for the first time in German dubbing in 2010!!!! ( there's a mentioning of it in a seperate article in the above link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/mobile/entertainment/7286459.stm (btw: Dad's Army isn't shown until yet.)
