Think he’ll do well to find any league club offering him two years at 34, unless he takes a pay cut.

What happened with Myles Hippolyte? Last season he seemed like your best player but then got injured and you didn't do as good without him, am I correct?

Do you think he would be good for a top 7 L2 team next season?
No you’re not.

He was a decent squad player who covered for Rydel at LWB or Collar/Sarcevic in midfield. Never first choice.

This season he’s mainly been out injured.

He’s 34.

I’m really sad he’s leaving but it’s right we won’t be offering a 34-year-old a two year deal.
Not playing like a 34-year-old, he's just had perhaps his best spell for us last month. I don't see how we're going to replace everything he offers

We can't replace Madden as a player with his overall leadership and quality but we can't afford to offer 34 year old two year deals. Other clubs can and will (he has something lined up clearly- I think it's Fleetwood). It's just not in our financial strategy.

Absolute legend for us. Big game player. Some massive, massive goals in our NL and L2 title wins. Will always be one of my favourite ever County players.

Croasdale and Hippolyte will be solid pick ups for League Two teams.

It’s a bit of a false outlook in my opinion because I think quite a few of those under ‘contract discussions’ will not materialise. 14 seniors under contract as it stands.

I would look to try and shift Calum MacDonald out of those under contract, but happy with the rest.

Rhys Oates will get a new contract due to being long term injured but it’s more about looking after the player welfare than anything else, and out of those out of contract we must tie down George Maris who’s been superb.

Lewis Brunt will be highly sought after in this division, if we can get him back that’s a coup.

Tom Nichols likely to be playing much?

Surprised to see you've just released 3 senior players outright. It looks like ourselves and Stockport have been far more ruthless going into the L1 season.

Clough does this every year, we will release more I think just keeping our options open with out of contact players. We want 6/7 players this summer and we run a small squad so no way we are signing all those under discussions.

Not going to be starting every week no, but will have a role to play. Done well with goals and assists in comparison to starts since he joined in January.

Not sure we've been that ruthless. Madden we did offer a contract too, just didn't want to stretch to two years.

Croasdale is borderline ruthless but will be 30 early next season, he can probably get a better and longer deal elsewhere. Hippolyte is a standard release for me, he was really good for us in his first year and a half but this season been injured for most of it and we probably do have better players in his positions. We may miss his versatility though. Again 30 early next season so those two just weren't a surprise to me.

So we've not been sentimental but wouldn't say ruthless.

I imagine we'll need to make about 8-9 signings to be honest which seems a squad overhaul but it's pretty standard at this level. I imagine a few will be loans, our DOF has said consistently that L1 clubs get far better loans than L2 and that is the market that opens up in this division. If one of the loans could be Louie Barry, we would be very happy indeed but it will be Aston Villa's decision.

We were turned down many times by players/clubs last summer and this January for the player or the club preferring to go to League One. I know for a fact we missed out on a player (lad called Jensen Weir) who's club wanted him to go on loan to Port Vale over us in January simply because they were League One despite us being in a promotion battle in L2 and Port Vale in a relegation battle.

It hadn't really dawned on me how few loan players that we actually had tbh...ONE in fact.

When you see the quality you can add to your squad by using teams from much higher up though, like Okonkwo for us, Barry for you for example...it's something that I hope we use more, and as you say, players & clubs will be more inclined to let them come now.

Ah, my mistake. Not sure where I got 32 from!

In that case, I can definitely see why you were reluctant to offer longer than a year. That said, I’m sure someone will definitely give him what he wants.

Hoping that Jules and Mitchell in particular will sign. No surprises otherwise

Caldwell seems hopeful we can convince a few to sign on again. Agree that Jules and Mitchell would be fantastic to have around for a couple more seasons, at least. And if we can get a couple of the loans back (not Muskwe!!!) we’ll be looking very stable indeed.

Of course, there will still be crucial gaps to fill, but the fewer signings required the better.

Muskwe was good for us on loan (and seemingly did OK for Fleetwood too) - what went wrong with him? I see he got a big injury around December but regardless of that, he didn’t seem to settle.

Can’t imagine Lu’un keeping him though - he’s not a kid any more and you feel if he was going to stake his claim to be a first teamer above the third tier then he should have done it by now.

Even the Fleetwood loan wasn’t that good, for him he was there all season but don’t think he cracked 20 appearances total. He’s only really had that half season spell with you lot in his career. Needs to drop into league 2 or even lower to find himself a bit imo, was really pretty surprised that Exeter took him on last season.

Glad Muskwe has gone back, wish him well but it's hard to see where his next move is.

He arrived was no match fitness, promptly got injured and when he came back a month or so later, he looked totally not arsed and like he’d never played the game before.

He had one decent ish game at home to Middlesbrough in the cup, but was shocking otherwise, so I can only guess his head just wasn’t in it. Clearly he’s capable but needs to find somewhere permanent where he can get regular games.

Ah fair enough, yeah it’s really frustrating when loan players arrive without match fitness, seriously sets them back. It’s kind of the last thing you want to see in a loanee when you’re hoping to see a quick injection of quality.

Don’t particularly think it will us either, we are looking at around 5/6 players to sign in the summer and one of those includes bringing Lewis Brunt back if possible so nothing major.
