Saved hundreds of kids from the Nazi's during WW2, and never spoke of it. It was only brought to light when his wife found a scrapbook in the attic detailing what he had done.

Here is a pretty emotional video which shows him finally getting some recognition.

Ah wow, I remember his story from a while back, what a proper hero he was. A truly great human being. Lived to 106 as well.

RIP sir.

A very courageous man and one whose life should be celebrated.

I doubt that we'll see the likes of him again.

Rest in peace sir, I salute you.

What an amazing video and an amazing man. I was listening to a bloke on 5 live last night who said there were some myths surrounding events. He said that there was a myth that Mr Winton had more or less single handedly helped the kids, but he himself was always at pains to say that he was part of a circle of people involved. The man on the radio also said that it was a myth about how it only came to light when his wife discovered a scrapbook. His daughter wrote a biography of her dad and apparently she says it didn't happen like that. Mr Winton was also quite left wing in his politics and although he never complained about having to relate his story to reporters and journalists it got to a point where he said that he'd like interviews with him to cover things he himself wanted to discuss which included his disappointment with establishment politics and disappointment on how Labour had moved to the right.

A true hero. RIP Mr Winton

Indeed. I meant his altruism though.

Saw this on BBC Breakfast, what an amazing scene when thosewho he saved were asked to stand up, me and the mrs both had tears in our eyes seeing that. You hear footballers being called a hero but fuck off this incredible man is a true hero.

It feels like it is from some kind of film. The little nod of acknowledgement he gives them shows what a humble and modest man he was.

Wow. Only just seen this, what a wonderful, truly remarkable man. If only the rest of humanity had the courage and humility of this great man the world would be a greater place.

A humble hero, RIP Sir, I salute you wholeheartedly with tears in my eyes.

RIP Mr. Fredricksen, it was beautiful when you turned up to Russells presentation after you flew your balloon loaded house half way around the world.

Hero.
