Bolton too slow out of the blocks today. In the first half it was like watching FGR under Mark Cooper.

I thought we more than matched Derby, which led to an entertaining game. Their fans will inevitably blame the ref, but he got all 3 major calls absolutely spot on and also gave Derby a number of soft free kicks. They only had 1/3 of the game with 10 men.

There was a little bit of complacency from their players and fans, which I had hoped for. I think they thought this was going to be a formality in their manager's first home game.

To be honest, we've been on the cusp of a big win for a while and it reiterates my thoughts that there's not an awful lot between the big teams and the rest. Derby looked threatening at times but played a lot on the break, which was strange when they were at home. With their squad and spending power, they're bound to have spells of pressure at home but we defended superbly and offered some good attacking play ourselves at times.

Special word for Smith again. Showing himself as one of the best specialist defenders in the division and also a champion shithouse. That must be 6 or 7 players he has managed to wind up enough to do something stupid. He pulls, treads on toes, verbals and generally gets in people's heads until they snap. Collins is thick as fuck for falling for it. That's where the Derby fans ire should be directed.

Some exellent performances today, Exeter, Port vale and Forest Green achieving great results -well done

Delighted with Fleetwood's draw at high flying Pompey, if people did'nt know it they do now, we are a hard team to beat. Be interested to hear from the home fans on the game and their thoughts

Tomorrow I am going to the christening of my great grand daughter, it will be a good day

Might have been a different game had the referee known how to play advantage or blow up for a foul/penalty on Scarlett early before you went down the other end and scored because, yet again, we can't defend balls going into the far post.

I feel squinnying about the ref papers over the cracks, though. We seemed to get worse as the game went on and Fleetwood got more comfortable. Never thought we were in danger of losing as Fleetwood didn't show too much interest in attacking but they blunted us second half and our subs didn't make an impact.

All in all, an extremely frustrating afternoon for us and we need to perform better than that all round if we're to challenge for the top two.

Just seen the red on twitter, can’t argue that one really. He does to punch the ground in frustration but Smudges head is there!

I’m not totally convinced there’s contact there but it was daft to do it in any case. I’m not a huge lover of players getting others sent off among other things but I guess do it to them before they do it to you.

We aren’t very good.

We’ve gone from being one of the highest scorers in the country to the most bland, uninspiring and boring side I’ve seen in years.

It won’t be long until KR is sacked.

Result never in much doubt at Wednesday, thought we did alright and had a few chances at 1-0 before they killed it off in the end. Absolute thunderbastard of a goal from Bannan, who was predictably the best player on the pitch.

Wasn’t expecting that today…So pleased for Stanno and Nicholson seems to be putting his hat in the ring for the job.

Sending off for putting your arms either side of the players head to balance, so you don’t fall on him? Games gone mad
Arm does connect a bit and as they do the defender makes a thing of it attracting the refs attention to it .

Warne sort says it was harsh but can see why a ref was given .

Some football club.

Seen us lose against Macclesfield, Accrington, Stevenage, Crawley, even Chasetown.

Seems like ever since I’ve supported Vale we’ve been shit. There’s always been an expectancy that Vale will let you down in some way.

I’ve dreamt of away wins against the likes of Derby etc.

Over the past year I’ve been proud to call myself a Vale fan. Wembley win and now a win at Derby.

That today is what football is about. Call us small time etc but I’ve spent my whole life listening to stories about Vale in the championship, beating Stoke, big FA cup scalps. Finally it’s my time to experience something decent.

Maybe so.

No offence but 80% of my Vale supporting Life has been depressing.

5 years ago when we were at the bottoms of league 2, I never thought we’d be beating Derby away.

I might sound cringey or embarrassing but days like today is why I support this football club.

Well they aren’t expecting big things and haven’t got the top flight or cup history you have had tbf.

Different expectations between you guys .
It is still pretty bleak though being so overwhelmed by beating a team in the same league as you.

What a shame you’re in the same league as little Port Vale.

Let’s hope you get to compete with the mighty Sheffield United in the near future.

Smith has made a massive meal of it, which is unlike him. Honest as the day is long. But Collins gave the referee a decision to make...silly from him really. Smith has done it to forwards before...he won't be the last to lose his cool against Smith, he's horrible to play against.

It's the typical mentality of some of these teams. They have an arrogance that doesn't sit well. Yes, his team was successful once, but now they're pretty shit and are playing in the 3rd tier and in fact have not been in the top tier for over 20 years. Aside from their support, which has no doubt dwindled since their premier league days, they're not a big or successful club anymore and I think the truth hurts.

It's like listening to those lardy fuckers down the road who once won the league cup 50 years ago don't you know?

Today are days when the shit we’ve been through becomes worth it, we aren’t going to make the Premier League nor likely the Championship soon so got to enjoy it, when you’ve seen your club on the verge of going out the league or even existence. You have to enjoy days like today, little old Port Vale going to a huge club and getting a result.

Seriously stop being a prick. You would know what days like today meant if you'd been as low as us. Typical big team fan.

I will say this on Derby though, in the final third they have some serious talent. Mendez-Laing has a great turn of pace and many defenders at this level will struggle with that and Barkhuizen looked a very tricky customer too. At the back is their problem though, I'm not sure its sustainable for the whole season to have Stearman (who I thought had already retired so shows what I know) and Chester. The teams in this league with pace up top will feast on them.

I can assure you I'm not boring...I bet I've had more wild nights in a week than you've ever had. I'm more articulate, certainly, but definitely not boring. I'm not the one in fairness who is tippy tapping on his computer in his mum's bedroom to an online forum several times a day. Go listen t'Wednesday band on repeat.

Great point at the posh for us. We played well.
On the way back I got a call - wife’s water broke, so now sitting in Burton queens hospital.
Thank fuck it did not break at 2pm - or she would have had to go on her own….

I was a little surprised by Derby and their approach, they played most of the game like the smaller club going away to a bigger one, sat fairly deep looking to hit us on the counter (in fairness their goal came from that). Bar 15 minutes before half time they never really came and had a real go at us at all.

Had some decent pace up top though, odd I remember Laing at Shrewsbury against us a few years back and he was dreadful (looked about 20 stone) but as you say their back line was very cart horse like, if you pump long balls they’ll be comfy but any pace or getting it on the deck you’d fancy your chances against them pair.

Christ! I was pretty much banned from going for the last few weeks of my wife’s pregnancies! (Although did go to see us relegate Crewe and had to roll up with a McDonalds to get back in the house which was lucky as my son came along a few hours later!)

Hope it goes well and congratulations
